Section Information

Medical and Livestock Entomology is a rapidly evolving discipline addressing some of the most pressing challenges at the interface of human, animal, and environmental health. The increasing emergence and re-emergence of vector-borne diseases, the geographical expansion of invasive arthropod species driven by globalisation and climate change, and the growing need for sustainable vector control demand an increasingly interdisciplinary scientific approach.

This Section welcomes high-quality contributions that advance our understanding of the biology, ecology, evolution, physiology, behaviour, genetics and genomics of arthropods of medical and veterinary importance. Particular attention is devoted to studies investigating vector–pathogen and vector–microbiome interactions, mechanisms of vector competence, insecticide resistance, reproductive biology, chemical ecology, surveillance, and innovative control strategies, including Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), Incompatible Insect Technique (IIT), Wolbachia-based approaches, genetic technologies, and integrated vector management.

The section also encourages studies that bridge fundamental and applied research, combining laboratory, semi-field, and field investigations with emerging technologies such as omics approaches, artificial intelligence, mathematical modelling, and remote sensing. We particularly welcome multidisciplinary studies adopting a One Health perspective, integrating entomology with epidemiology, ecology, microbiology, public health, and veterinary sciences.

Our objective is to establish this section as a leading forum for innovative, mechanistic a,nd translational research that contributes to understanding arthropod vectors and developing effective, environmentally sustainable strategies for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases affecting both humans and animals.
