Young Investigator Award

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the winners of the IJMS 2023 Young Investigator Award.

Chiara Mazziotta is a post-doctorate from the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy. Her research interests are focused on understanding the role of small tumor DNA viruses, i.e., polyoma- and papillomaviruses, in the onset/development of human diseases. Dr. Mazziotta received her Ph.D. in 2022 and has published 31 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of virology, viral oncology, viral infections, immunology, epigenetics, and regenerative medicine.

Wentao Li is a professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China. Dr. Li received his Ph.D. in 2018 from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. His research is focused on coronaviruses and the African swine fever virus (ASFV), with particular interest in virus entry into the host cell.

Antentor Hinton is an assistant professor from the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA. Dr. Hinton obtained his Ph.D. in Integrative Molecular and Biomedical Sciences in 2016 from Baylor College of Medicine, USA. His research interests lie in Mitochondria, Mitochondria Endoplasmic Reticulum Contact Sites, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Serial Block Face (SBF) Scanning Electron Microscopy, Focus Ion Beam (FIB) Scanning Electron Microscopy, TMEM 135, MICOS, Diabetes, Hypertension, and Obesity.

Salvador González-Gordo is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Estación Experimental del Zaidín (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC), Granada, Spain. Dr. González-Gordo completed his Ph.D. in 2021 from The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Estación Experimental del Zaidín (EEZ), Spain. His research interests involve Fruit, Ripening, ROS, RNS, Nitric oxide, Transcriptomics, Proteomics, Postharvest, and Hydrogen sulfide.

Edina Poletto is a postdoctoral research scholar at the School of Medicine, Stanford University, California, USA. Dr. Poletto obtained her Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2021. Her primary project centered on developing a gene therapy for Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPSI) based on genome-edited hematopoietic stem cells.

Each awardee will receive an honorarium of CHF 1000 and an electronic certificate.
