The congress has been structured in a way to promote open discussions on general and technical issues for the implementation of Open Source GIS (OSGIS) projects in Latin America. The main congress activities involve the LatinOSGIS conference, which aims at foster interdisciplinary discussions in all aspects of the geospatial and free and open source domains; a national conversatory on OSGIS issues among public national institutions to identify migration strategies from proprietary systems in order to implement the national policy; and, a practical course introducing OSGIS software.
