Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Contaminants in soils can not only bring negative effects to the ecosystem, but also threaten human health through various exposure routes. Despite the current achievements in understanding the factors controlling the behavior of contaminants, alterations in agricultural and industrial activities have introduced considerable emerging contaminants to both agricultural and urban soils. Systematic studies on different large-scale soil types are required to quantitively evaluate the extent of adverse effect from these emerging contaminants to the ecosystem and human health. On the other hand, the heterogeneity of physio-chemical properties and soil ecosystems makes it difficult to assess ecological and health risk correctly for traditional contaminants, such as heavy metals and POPs. Researches have been made to quantify the uncertainties of different assessment, but mostly based on statistical analysis. Evidence is needed to evaluate the applicability of these methods, so that soil quality standards and remediation techniques can be further improved for more sustainable land management.

Therefore, this Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of knowledge of both emerging and traditional contaminants in contaminated or remediated soils. New research papers, reviews, case reports, and conference papers are welcome to this issue. Papers dealing with analytical method development, new approaches to derive soil quality standards, remediation techniques, risk assessment, and management are also welcome. Other manuscript types accepted include brief reports and commentaries.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
