Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to highlight the dual pillars of high-quality healthcare delivery—therapeutic effectiveness and patient safety—which collectively ensure that medical interventions achieve their intended clinical outcomes while minimizing associated risks.
Therapeutic effectiveness refer to the application of evidence-based and contextually appropriate interventions that demonstrably improve patient-centered outcomes, including morbidity, mortality, quality of life and functional status. It also encompasses critical considerations of resource allocation, health equity and pharmacoeconomic sustainability within healthcare systems.
Patient safety, involving the systematic adoption of medication management protocols and therapeutic strategies designed to reduce adverse events, prevents iatrogenic errors and mitigates avoidable harm. It integrates frameworks for patient education, risk assessment and proactive error prevention across care settings.
These two domains are intrinsically interdependent, jointly shaping the overall risk–benefit profile of therapies. Their concurrent prioritization fosters patient–provider trust, upholds ethical and professional standards, enhances health outcomes/quality of life and supports continuous quality improvement across pharmaceutical and healthcare systems.
Core components in this context encompass judicious pharmacotherapy selection through rational prescribing, comprehensive patient counseling, optimized medication management and reconciliation and assurance of pharmaceutical supply security, as well as the strategic management of drug shortages.
