Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Urban environments are expanding under the pressures of the global human population, moving towards 10 billion by the mid-century. Assuring the equitable supply of culturally appropriate, sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to maintain population health and well-being in urban populations continues to be a major issue globally. Of particular concern is the impact that cities have on the broader global ecosystem, with global environmental sustainability as a major imperative. The growth and intensification of urbanised living presents new challenges, with innovation emerging across a range of sectors. Urban ecosystems are resource-rich and culturally diverse, and therefore also present many opportunities. This Special Issue will explore a range of approaches to enhance food security in the context of environmental sustainability as urbanisation intensifies.
