Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In this Special Issue, we invite you to reflect on the global impact of occupational and environmental exposure to carcinogenic agents as well as on the impact of tumors on public health, as they represent a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020 (nearly one in six deaths), which may increase to 21.6 million by 2030 (www.who.int).
Regarding what causes cancer, tumors are considered to be the result of the interaction between a person's genetic factors and external agents like physical carcinogens (e.g., ionizing radiation), chemical carcinogens (asbestos, components of tobacco smoke, etc.), and biological carcinogens, such as infections from certain viruses, bacteria, or parasites. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is constantly updating the classification of cancer-causing agents with 133 agents in group 1, 96 agents in group 2A, and 322 agents in group 2B.
It is estimated that nearly half of the tumors can be prevented by adopting preventive strategies like risk factors elimination, early detection with the screening programs and appropriate treatment and care of patients who develop cancer.
Scientific research is needed in order to increase awareness regarding the causes of human cancer and the mechanisms of carcinogenesis and to develop new therapies for cancer patients.
Over the years an enormous amount of scientific information has been published and has helped to clarify many aspects of the carcinogenic process. We strongly believe in and emphasize the importance of the multidisciplinary and strategic collaborative effort in hazard identification, prevention, and control measures in both occupational and public settings and in the development of appropriate therapeutic methods that can improve survival and quality of life of cancer patients.
Therefore, authors are invited to submit their latest research regarding cancer agents and the latest developments in mechanisms of carcinogenesis, diagnosis, and cancer therapy.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue
- Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
- Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
- Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
- External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
- Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
