Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Stroke is one of the most common causes of death worldwide, and ranks third among diseases that cause permanent loss of function and disability. Its impact not only on the individual, but also on society, is significant. Although modern stroke therapies (thrombolysis, thrombectomy) represent a significant step forward, the preventive approach and health awareness are equally important, and are not emphasized enough. In addition, the age of stroke onset is also influenced by the socio-economic factors of a country or region (it appears at ages up to 15 years younger than in wealthier areas). Due to the aging society, in the future we can expect difficulties in care due to the increasing number of stroke cases globally. The number of publications on the topic of stroke is large—almost impossible to review. In this Special Issue of Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, we therefore focus on relatively rarely discussed aspects. According to our intention, in addition to certain environmental effects, we aim at the interaction of stroke with mental and physical diseases, the difficulties of differential diagnosis of stroke, its insufficiently known complications (e.g., dysphagia) and aspects of special treatment (e.g., medical nutrition).
