Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Threats to occupational health, safety, and wellbeing impact individual workers, employing organizations, and, in many cases, the public they serve. An understanding of risk and protective factors influencing employee health, safety, and wellbeing is vital for informing interventions and policies targeting the work force. Shift work, extended workhours, fatigue, burnout, cynicism, bias, discrimination, stigma, and prejudice are just some of the stressors that may affect the quality of life and subjective well-being of individuals. Understanding the impact of different occupational stressors is especially relevant in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The current Special Issue seeks papers dedicated to the exploration of a wide range of stressors affecting the quality of work life, safety, well-being, and health of diverse employee populations. We welcome papers, including, but not limited to, unique stressors among ethnic, racial, sexual, or gender minority groups; stressors associated with shift work and extended workhours; stressors related to being exposed to trauma; impacts of burnout and cynicism; and more. Papers exploring protective factors or variables shielding employees from the adverse outcomes of occupational stressors are also welcome. This Special Issue welcomes papers from across disciplines, including clinical psychology, health psychology, medicine, sociology, criminology, and a diversity of social contexts.
