Special Issue Information
Loneliness carries a significant social stigma, as a lack of friendship and social ties are socially undesirable, and social perceptions of lonely people are generally unfavorable. Lonely people often have very negative self-perceptions, believing that the inability to establish social ties is due to personal inadequacies or socially undesirable attributes. The effect of loneliness on public health is obvious and validated by numerous studies. The negative effects of loneliness may include physical illness, emotional issues, and even mortality. Such are the serious effects of loneliness.
This Special Issue aims to address loneliness, its causes, and potential intervention strategies and explore how it is related to and impacts public health. While research papers are welcome, we would also like to encourage submissions of review articles and meta-analyses.
Manuscripts may be submitted by researchers in the following disciplines: psychology, philosophy, public health, sociology, social work, nursing, and medicine, to name just a few.
