Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
There are numerous and growing challenges that health services must face at present. These concern the public and individual health of all types of patients, both outpatient and inpatient, but also healthy patients to whom prevention programs must be dedicated. The increasing aging of the population and the burden of comorbidities are investing researchers in efforts aimed at defining how much is necessary to implement in a primary, secondary and tertiary prevention setting. These challenges involve all the articulations of the health service: primary care, the continuity of care, prevention, and above all the hospital in terms of care burden and costs. Another great challenge is that of combating antimicrobial resistance through the prevention of healthcare-related infections and antimicrobial stewardship, objectives that have not yet been fully achieved in all healthcare settings. All these areas represent a challenge for health services which are required to implement proactive and evidence-based actions. The sustainability of the services themselves, in a context where resources are limited and needs are growing, will also depend on the ability of health services to act effectively and efficiently.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Special Issue“Evidence-Based Medicine in Epidemiology: Enhancing Patient Care and Healthcare Efficiency”. This Issue aims to gather high-quality research articles, systematic reviews, and evidence-based perspectives addressing the pressing challenges in health services and patient care.
We encourage submissions that explore innovative strategies, interventions, and policies rooted in clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine. Contributions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Studies addressing the burden of aging populations and multimorbidity on healthcare systems.
- Research on effective prevention programs across primary, secondary, and tertiary settings.
- Evidence-based approaches to improving antimicrobial stewardship and preventing healthcare-associated infections.
- Evaluations of healthcare service sustainability, including cost-effectiveness and resource allocation.
- Insights into continuity of care, primary care models, and integrated healthcare approaches.
- Cutting-edge methodologies and applications in clinical epidemiology that bridge research and practice.
This Special Issue provides an opportunity to showcase impactful research that supports evidence-based decision-making in healthcare, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and optimizing resource use. Contributions from multidisciplinary teams, international collaborations, and researchers in public health, clinical practice, and health economics are particularly welcome. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Healthcare is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
