Dear Colleagues,
Hydrogels are highly hydrated polymer networks that have attracted extensive attention in biomedical science because of their soft tissue-like properties, tunable structures, and excellent biocompatibility. Recent advances in polymer chemistry, supramolecular assembly, and bioengineering have enabled the development of multifunctional hydrogels with precisely controlled mechanical, physicochemical, and biological properties. These materials are increasingly being explored for applications in drug delivery, tissue regeneration, wound healing, and immunomodulation.
At the same time, biomedical hydrogels have rapidly evolved from simple water-swollen materials into multifunctional therapeutic platforms. Through rational molecular and structural design, hydrogels can now achieve controlled drug release, stimuli responsiveness, injectable delivery, tissue regeneration, and immunomodulation. The integration of advanced fabrication techniques, such as 3D bioprinting and bioinspired assembly, further expands their potential in regenerative medicine, cancer therapy, wearable bioelectronics, and soft biomedical devices.
For this Special Issue, “Biomedical Hydrogels: Advances in Design, Fabrication and Therapeutic Applications”, we welcome the contribution of original research articles, reviews, and short communications covering recent progress in hydrogel design, synthesis, characterization, and biomedical applications. Particular interest will be given to innovative hydrogel platforms with translational and therapeutic potential. We hope this collection will provide valuable insights into the future development of hydrogel-based biomedical technologies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Gels is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
