Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
High-performance fibres are essential to lightweight structures, advanced composites, protective systems, energy technologies, filtration, healthcare and smart textiles. Rapid developments in polymer chemistry, carbonaceous and inorganic materials, bio-derived fibres, nanotechnology and scalable manufacturing are enabling fibres with enhanced mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, optical and multifunctional properties.
This Special Issue invites original research articles, reviews and communications addressing fundamental and applied advances in high-performance fibres derived from synthetic, natural, regenerated, inorganic, carbonaceous and hybrid materials. Particular emphasis will be given to fibre design and processing, structure–property–performance relationships, surface and interfacial engineering, durability, multifunctionality, sustainability and industrial translation.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced synthetic, natural, regenerated, carbonaceous, inorganic and hybrid fibre materials;
- Fibre formation, spinning, drawing, orientation, thermal treatment and scalable manufacturing;
- Structure–property–performance relationships and advanced fibre characterisation;
- Fibre surface modification, interfacial engineering and fibre-reinforced composites;
- Functional and multifunctional fibres for energy, sensing, electronics, filtration, healthcare and protective systems;
- Fibre durability, renewable precursors, recycling, lifecycle assessment and industrial applications.
We look forward to receiving your contributions and bringing together recent advances that will support the development of next-generation high-performance fibre technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Fibers is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
