Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Stochastic, probabilistic, and dynamical methods are indispensable in modern quantum science. From path-integral formulations and quantum trajectories to stochastic master equations, quantum Langevin dynamics, and fluctuation theorems, randomness provides both a conceptual lens and a practical toolkit for understanding decoherence, measurement, thermalization, transport, and control. At the same time, recent developments in quantum foundations, high-energy physics, and quantum many-body theory are expanding the contexts in which stochastic and probabilistic descriptions of quantum phenomena are being tested and interpreted.

This Special Issue will bring together theoretical, computational, and experimental contributions on stochastic processes in quantum mechanics, broadly understood to include foundational questions, open quantum systems, quantum information, many-body dynamics, and emerging experimental platforms. In addition to traditional topics such as quantum trajectories, decoherence, quantum Brownian motion, and non-Markovian dynamics, the Special Issue will welcome work on foundational aspects of quantum mechanics, including hidden-variable and ontological approaches, quantum–classical correspondences, contextuality, measurement, collapse, locality, and the interpretation of quantum probabilities. The scope will also include recent efforts to test quantum correlations and Bell-type inequalities in high-energy systems, including collider-based studies at the Large Hadron Collider, where entanglement, spin correlations, Bell nonlocality, and related quantum observables can be probed in regimes far removed from conventional atomic, optical, or condensed-matter platforms.

A further emphasis will be placed on quantum many-body systems, including stochastic and dynamical approaches to thermalization, ergodicity breaking, quantum many-body scars, parent Hamiltonians, tensor-network methods, matrix-product states, entanglement dynamics, and the interplay between locality, symmetry, dissipation, and non-equilibrium quantum behavior. By connecting quantum foundations, quantum information, condensed-matter physics, quantum optics, chemical physics, high-energy physics, open quantum systems, and quantum biology, this Special Issue aims to foster cross-pollination between communities that rely on related stochastic, probabilistic, and dynamical frameworks.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
