Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In the rapidly evolving global IT landscape, optimizing energy consumption has become a strategic priority. As digital infrastructure expands—from data centers to personal devices—the environmental impact of technology continues to grow. Energy-efficient solutions are no longer optional but essential for ensuring sustainability, reducing operational costs, and meeting climate goals. Key strategies for energy optimization include deploying low-power hardware, implementing intelligent energy management systems, adopting cloud and edge computing, and utilizing AI for dynamic resource allocation. These technologies not only enhance performance but also significantly reduce energy usage across IT systems.
Furthermore, aligning IT energy practices with ESG (environmental, social, governance) principles has become crucial for companies and governments seeking long-term resilience and responsibility. By integrating energy-efficient solutions, the IT sector can contribute to reducing global carbon emissions while promoting innovation and digital inclusion. Ultimately, optimizing energy consumption in the global IT environment supports both environmental sustainability and economic efficiency. It ensures that technological progress does not come at the expense of the planet, aligning digital transformation with the principles of responsible and sustainable development.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to the theory, design, modelling, application, control, and condition monitoring of optimizing energy consumption in a global IT world.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Optimizing energy consumption, especially in the world of information technology;
- Energy-efficient solutions;
- Implementing intelligent energy management systems,;
- IT energy practices;
- Principles of responsible and sustainable development in ensuring access to energy;
- Environmental costs and benefits;
- Sustainable finance;
- Climate-related policies and solutions implemented within the European Union and International Institutions;
- Transformations in line with ESG principles (environmental, social, governance);
- Digital transformation;
- Artificial intelligence in resource allocation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
