AI-Integrated Sensors and Emerging Applications in Advanced Healthcare
This special issue belongs to the section “Bioelectronics“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Recent advances in sensor technologies—including miniaturization via microelectronics, enhanced sensitivity enabled by nanotechnology, and seamless data integration supported by analytics tools—have unlocked unprecedented potential for their deployment in healthcare contexts. These technological advancements have transformed sensors from lab-scale prototypes to practical tools capable of real-time data capture, long-term monitoring, and on-site analysis, perfectly aligning with the evolving needs of modern healthcare (e.g., remote care, personalized surveillance). As sensors become more cost-effective, biocompatible, and portable, their integration into clinical workflows, wearable devices, and home-based systems has accelerated—creating a critical need to synthesize and showcase how sensor innovations are specifically applied to address healthcare challenges.
This Special Issue focuses on highlighting the application of sensor technologies in advancing healthcare practice, with the core goal of demonstrating how sensor design, optimization, and deployment directly drive improvements in care delivery. It aims to gather interdisciplinary research that details sensor-specific innovations—such as signal detection enhancement, biocompatible material integration, or data transmission optimization—and their translation into healthcare settings. Rather than centering on healthcare challenges alone, the Special Issue emphasizes how sensors solve these challenges, fostering collaboration between sensor engineers, data scientists, and clinicians to refine and scale sensor applications.
Submissions may focus on, but are not limited to, the following:
-Wearable sensor design and application for continuous monitoring;
-Biosensor technology for point-of-care (POC) diagnosis;
-Implantable sensor engineering and clinical application;
-Smart environmental sensor deployment in healthcare facilities;
-Sensor-data integration with AI for clinical support;
-Sensor fusion with AI and integrated sensing–processing systems;
-Sensor applications in emerging healthcare areas (e.g., mental health monitoring, contactless vital-sign extraction).
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
