Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Computer vision and pattern recognition are pivotal technologies that enable machines to interpret and understand visual information from the world. These technologies have a wide range of applications across various industries, solving complex problems and enhancing operational efficiency. Computer vision allows systems to process and analyze images, videos, and other visual inputs to extract meaningful information. Pattern recognition focuses on identifying patterns and regularities in data. Together, they empower machines to mimic human vision capabilities and automate tasks that require visual understanding.
Computer vision is used in medical imaging to assist in diagnosing diseases, such as detecting tumors in MRIs and X-rays. Pattern recognition helps to analyze patient data for better treatment plans. Vision-based systems are crucial for facial recognition and monitoring activities in real-time, enhancing security measures in public and private spaces. Autonomous vehicles rely heavily on computer vision for navigation, obstacle detection, and lane tracking, making them safer and more reliable. Vision systems are used in automated inspection processes to ensure product quality, detecting defects that may be invisible to the human eye. Remote sensing and thermal imaging help to monitor crop health, soil conditions, and irrigation needs, enabling precision agriculture and resource optimization. Also, remote sensing technologies are essential for tracking environmental changes, such as deforestation, pollution levels, and climate patterns. Thermal imaging is used to identify structural issues and energy inefficiencies, leading to improved building maintenance and safety.
Data science and AI play crucial roles in enhancing the capabilities of computer vision and sensor data analysis. They enable the development of sophisticated algorithms that improve pattern recognition and decision-making processes. Algorithms can learn from large datasets to improve accuracy in identifying objects, patterns, and anomalies, leading to more intelligent systems. Deep learning, a subset of machine learning, uses neural networks to process complex data inputs, making it ideal for tasks like image classification and object detection. Furthermore, AI leverages data from vision systems to forecast trends and behaviors, aiding in strategic planning and proactive decision-making.
AI-driven systems can process large volumes of visual data quickly and with high precision, reducing human error and increasing productivity. AI models can be scaled to accommodate growing data and complexity, making them adaptable to various industries and applications. Automating tasks previously handled manually leads to significant cost savings and resource optimization. With AI, businesses can gain deeper insights from their data, leading to more informed and strategic decisions. AI systems can analyze data in real time, providing immediate feedback and enabling timely interventions. Overall, computer vision and pattern recognition, empowered by data science and AI, offer transformative solutions across sectors, driving innovation and efficiency in solving real-world problems. These technologies continue to evolve, promising even greater capabilities and applications in the future.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
