Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tuberculosis is as old as humanity itself. This disease remains a serious worldwide health problem. A successful fight against tuberculosis highly depends on early diagnosis and proper continuous treatment of the disease. The significance of recognition of the early clinical symptoms of tuberculosis cannot be overstated. These symptoms are usually mild. They are often overlooked or misinterpreted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Persons with active pulmonary tuberculosis spreads the tuberculosis causative agent and disseminated infection.

Surprisingly, recent statistics show the decline in new tuberculosis cases and tuberculosis treatment rates that is disproportionate to the long-term trends in these rates. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the early diagnosis and management of many diseases. In many countries, care for people with tuberculosis is not working as well as it did before the pandemic. This suggests the fairly strong assumption that there will be an increase in tuberculosis cases shortly.

The dissemination of good clinical practice at this time is therefore particularly welcome. This Special Issue “Diagnostics and Management of Tuberculosis and COVID-19 Co-Infection” is dedicated to presenting and discussing the tuberculosis problems related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite you to submit your research (reviews, original papers, special case series, or exceptional clinical cases) intended for the links between tuberculosis and COVID-19. We invite you to share your and your country's experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing tuberculosis in a COVID-19 pandemic.
