Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
There are elements in common in the autoimmune processes of T1DM and some (often associated) rheumatic diseases, but with some differences. There are also common inflammatory mechanisms between T2DM, rheumatic diseases, and cardiovascular disease. Glucocorticoids are the major cause of diabetes development in patients with rheumatic diseases. Insulin therapy is often necessary, but the new drugs (GLP1-RA and gliflozin) which have demonstrated cardiovascular protection in diabetic and non-diabetic patients could prove to be an excellent weapon. Despite these similarities and the frequent presence of diabetes associated with rheumatic diseases, there are gender differences between the two diseases. The aim of this Special Issue is to present articles based on gender differences in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and rheumatological diseases.
