Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sintering, as one of the established processing routes for the fabrication of ceramic parts, directly defines their structure, microstructure, and functional properties. Recent advances in sintering have enabled researchers to address many of the longstanding challenges in ceramic processing. For instance, advanced techniques have opened up novel opportunities to consolidate metastable ceramic materials, fully densify refractory parts, integrate organic and inorganic compounds, and finely tune, control, or develop unique microstructures, as well as contributing to a sustainable future. As a result, ceramics with enhanced and/or unexplored properties can be attained, and beyond conventional sintering techniques are establishing a paradigm shift in tailoring processing–microstructure–property correlations.

We invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which will cover the rich diversity of sintering science and technology topics. We encourage scientists to contribute to this Special Issue by submitting short communications, full papers, or review papers focusing on the fundamental understanding of applied sintering science. The key topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Low-temperature consolidation of ceramics;
  • Rapid and ultra-rapid sintering;
  • Out-of-equilibrium processing;
  • Athermal effects in sintering;
  • Intrinsic effects of thermal cycles in sintering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Ceramics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
