Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This special issue on Nanocatalysts for Energy Conversion and Storage is dedicated to the original, novel, and high-impact contributions to utilizing sustainable energy sources to eliminate carbon-based fuels with cutting-edge technology in material selection and design. Consistently, energy-storage applications such as supercapacitor and battery-related works are welcome in this issue. In addition,  the results on design, selection, synthesis, characterization, and application of novel materials as the new approaches in a catalytic reaction are also prospective to enrich our publications in communications, research papers, and review articles.

As we know the anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have contributed to climate change and global warming. One of the solutions is to generate renewable energy sources for future use to replace the current carbon-based fuels. Besides that, degrading industrial effluents are also required to remediate our environment for a high-quality life. The efforts to store sunlight energy in chemical bonds are crucial since solar-light irradiation is naturally intermittent. The intermittent issue can be overcome by keeping the sunlight energy in selected solar fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and alcohol with catalytic reactions. Furthermore, the sunlight energy can also be stored in highly efficient batteries and supercapacitors, attracting scientists' interest in this field. Catalytic materials with characteristics of high abundance, low toxicity, and low cost are promising to be developed to advance a sustainable technology for the remediation of energy and environmental issues.

 In general, the works on this issue will include the following subjects:

  • Enhancement of photocatalytic, electrocatalytic, and photoelectrocatalytic reaction efficiencies for water splitting.
  • Catalytic mechanisms include CO2 conversion, N2 fixation, organic chemical transformation, hydroxylation, hydrogenation, and dehydrogenation.
  • Simulation works for comparison with the experimental approaches.
  • Involvement of catalytic materials in enhancing solar cell efficiency.
  • Utilization and valorization of industrial waste to support the efforts of environmental remediation.
  • Cathode and anode materials in batteries and supercapacitors, including the strategies for advanced energy storage technologies.
  • The design in membrane technology for industrial effluents.
  • Metal-organic-based catalysis for energy conversion applications.
  • Organic, inorganic, and hybrid material design and selection for catalysts.
  • Oxide, sulfide, and oxysulfide catalytic materials
