Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Photocatalytic and photo-electrocatalytic technologies represent one of the most promising pathways toward a carbon-neutral future, offering simultaneous solutions to environmental pollution and the growing energy crisis. By harnessing abundant solar energy to drive thermodynamically unfavorable redox reactions, these processes enable the efficient mineralization of persistent organic pollutants, the disinfection of contaminated water, and the conversion of solar energy into chemical fuels such as hydrogen and hydrocarbon feedstocks. This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge advances spanning from rational catalyst design and fundamental mechanistic elucidation to reactor engineering and techno-economic assessment. We welcome original research and review articles focusing on novel semiconductor architectures, heterojunction engineering, single-atom catalysts, photo-electrochemical reactor configurations, emerging contaminant degradation, photocatalytic water splitting, and CO₂ reduction. Special emphasis is placed on studies bridging fundamental discoveries with practical, scalable applications for sustainable environmental remediation and solar energy utilization.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Catalysts is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
