Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The construction sector is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by the need for sustainability, resilience, and technological innovation. This Special Issue seeks to advance the understanding of how sustainable supply chain strategies and effective project management approaches can be integrated to address environmental, social, and economic challenges in construction. Topics include sustainable procurement, circular economy practices, green logistics, the digitalisation of construction supply chains, risk management in large-scale infrastructure projects, and the role of emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and blockchain in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and stakeholder collaboration.
We welcome interdisciplinary research that bridges supply chain management, construction engineering, environmental sustainability, and digital transformation. Both conceptual and empirical contributions are encouraged, with a focus on innovative models, frameworks, and case studies, demonstrating measurable impacts on sustainability and performance outcomes.
Given the global nature of construction challenges, this Special Issue also invites comparative studies, cross-sector collaborations, and policy-oriented research to support evidence-based decision making. By bringing together diverse perspectives, the Special Issue aims to foster actionable knowledge for industry practitioners, policymakers, and academics seeking to transform construction supply chains into engines of sustainable development.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
