Targeted Nanomedicine: From Design to Application
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue, “Targeted Nanomedicine: From Design to Application”, highlights the transformative potential of targeted nanomedicines to overcome critical limitations of conventional clinical drugs. While traditional therapeutics often suffer from non-specific biodistribution, leading to severe side effects and suboptimal efficacy, nanomedicines offer a paradigm shift. By enabling the precise delivery of therapeutic agents to diseased cells, they significantly enhance treatment efficacy while minimizing systemic toxicity, paving the way for more effective and safer therapies.
We welcome high-quality submissions that explore the entire pipeline of targeted nanomedicine. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the rational design and novel engineering of nanocarriers (e.g., liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, dendrimers), and their comprehensive in vivo therapeutic evaluation in disease models. We are particularly interested in research on “smart” responsive nanosystems that release their payload upon specific internal (e.g., pH, enzymes) or external (e.g., light, magnetic) triggers. Manuscripts detailing clinical translation efforts, including preclinical safety assessments and early-stage clinical trials, are also highly encouraged. Contributions discussing advanced targeting ligands, the integration of nanomedicines with diagnostics (theranostics), overcoming biological barriers, addressing scale-up and manufacturing challenges, and presenting insightful perspectives on the future direction of the field are also welcome.
This Issue aims to consolidate the latest breakthroughs and foster discussion on accelerating the development of these promising platforms from the laboratory research to clinical applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomedicines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
