Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to suggest a forthcoming Special Issue focusing on patients at high-risk for atrial fibrillation. Current clinical practice guidelines provide comprehensive frameworks for the management of diagnosed AF. However, a notable evidence gap persists concerning individuals exhibiting elevated thromboembolic risk who have not yet received an AF diagnosis. This often-overlooked cohort represents a vulnerable patient population with a significant propensity for future thromboembolic events, thus necessitating dedicated research to inform clinical practice.
This proposed Special Issue aims to address this critical knowledge deficit by soliciting original research and comprehensive reviews on various aspects pertinent to high-risk AF patients. We invite submissions focusing on, but not limited to, the following key areas:
- Thromboembolic Risk: Methodologies for the accurate assessment of thromboembolic risk in this specific patient population.
- Cardiovascular Comorbidity: Investigation into impact of associated cardiovascular comorbidities within the high-risk AF cohort.
- Associated Factors: Identification and characterization of genetic factors associated with an increased likelihood of AF development and adverse cardiovascular events.
- AF Burden Assessment: Advanced methodologies for quantifying AF burden, including the role and implications of device-detected atrial fibrillation (DDAF).
- Treatment Strategies: Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of diverse therapeutic approaches, encompassing initiatives such as CARE-AF and various anticoagulation strategies, tailored for this high-risk population.
We anticipate that contributions to this Special Issue will significantly advance the understanding and inform the clinical management of patients at high-risk for AF.
