Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The dynamic trend of modernization and development of physical and sports education is ensured by informational transfer and by adapting informational technologies within the educational process of evaluating human motor potential and sustainable development. Diversification and modernization of educational methodologies and modern technology adapted for physical and sports education will contribute to the efficiency of training and sports programs, to the identification of new ways of monitoring and evaluating physical and sports parameters. Research on the optimization of human physical and functional parameters is a major objective of physical and sports education that must be adapted to the contexts and current technological trends of education with interdisciplinary impact. Your contribution to this Special Issue, regarding the improvement of physical education through the use of information technologies for all age categories and for all types of sports practices, will be welcome.

The world engaged in online sport watching during COVID-19. Fortunately, in Taiwan, the pandemic was stably controlled in 2020, allowing for the continuation of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL); this attracted international attention and encouraged relevant discussions on social media in Taiwan. In the present study, through text mining, we analyzed user content (e.g., the concepts of sports service quality and social identity) on the Professional Technology Temple (PTT) baseball board—the largest online bulletin board system in Taiwan. A predictive model was constructed to assess PTT users’ COVID-19-related comments in 2020. A total of 422 articles and 21,167 comments were retrieved. PTT users interacted more frequently during the closed-door period, particularly during the beginning of the CPBL in April. Effective pandemic prevention, which garnered global attention to the league, generated a sense of national identity among the users, which was strengthened with the development of peripheral products, such as English broadcasting and live broadcasting on Twitch. We used machine learning to develop a chatbot for predicting the attributes of users’ comments; this chatbot may improve CPBL teams’ understanding of public opinion trends. Our findings may help stakeholders develop tailored programs for online spectators of sports during pandemic situations. Full article

Background: One of the most pressing problems for athletes is related to the end of their career, a situation that presents serious challenges in the attempt to enter the labor market in the absence of an adequate education. Despite the fact that successful sports students encounter some problems in terms of time allocated to school, consistent work will ultimately provide them with a rewarding career and, most importantly, a relevant social role to inspire other athletes who are at the beginning of their careers. A successful approach to dual career cannot take place if athletes and their entourage (coaches, parents, teachers) are not aware of its importance. By analyzing the concept from different angles by professionals (EU, governments, ministries), dual career can be implemented in an efficient way and much faster if the appropriate institutions are involved. The use of mass media to create interest and content in the sports field has managed to produce major interest among specialists in the field. Methods: In this study, the answers of 30 mass media specialists were analyzed to understand how “dual career” is promoted for the performance athlete in the mass media in Romania. In order to analyze if there is any connection between mass media, dual career and the profile of the performance athlete, we applied a chi-square test and Pearson and Spearman correlations. Results: The obtained results indicate a weak connection between the analyzed terms. Conclusions: The conclusions reached allow us to form an overview of the analyzed terms, managing to create directions for action in order to constantly improve the phenomenon in Romania.
