International Conference on Energy Storage and Sustainable Circularity (ESSC 2026)
On 1–2 July 2026, the Energy Storage & Sustainable Circularity Conference (ESSC 2026) will take place in Istanbul, Türkiye, hosted by SUNUM—Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research Center. ESSC 2026 is an international forum dedicated to advances in energy storage technologies, integrated energy systems, and the water–energy nexus, bringing together researchers, industry experts, and policy stakeholders from around the world.
The conference covers a broad range of topics including next-generation battery chemistries, battery materials and manufacturing, battery system integration and management, performance diagnostics and control, AI-driven digital twins, circularity and end-of-life strategies, as well as water–energy interactions such as energy-efficient water treatment and brine valorization.
ESSC 2026 provides a high-level platform for presenting and discussing cutting-edge research, innovative system concepts, and techno-economic, environmental, and policy perspectives relevant to sustainable and circular energy systems.

The Special Issue “Energy Storage and Sustainable Circularity: Materials, Systems, and Lifecycle Approaches” is a collaboration between ESSC 2026 and Batteries.

The scope of this Special Issue aligns with research themes discussed at the ESSC 2026 and encourages submissions that bridge materials innovation, system-level performance, and sustainability considerations. Experimental and theoretical studies, as well as application-driven research relevant to mobility, grid storage, and long-duration energy storage are encouraged.
