Emerging Trends in Oil and Gas Reservoir Technology

This special issue belongs to the section “Energy Science and Technology“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the dual imperatives of meeting energy demand and advancing the energy transition. Moreover, as the global energy sector evolves at an unprecedented pace, the role of innovative reservoir technology has never been more critical. Consequently, this Special Issue is dedicated to showcasing the pioneering research and developments that are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in reservoir characterization, management, and recovery.

We seek to compile high-quality research and review articles that address the latest advancements in the field, and key areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Advancement in reservoir characterization: Application or improvements of advanced methods for characterizing conventional or unconventional reservoirs.
  • Digital Transformation: Application of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced data analytics for reservoir simulation and production optimization.
  • Enhanced Recovery Techniques: Novel EOR/IOR methods, i.e., chemical EOR or miscible/immiscible gas flooding.
  • Sustainable Reservoir Management: Integration of CCUS, geothermal coproduction, and lifecycle assessment to reduce the environmental footprint of operations.
  • Advanced Drilling and Completions: Developments in horizontal drilling, multistage fracturing, and intelligent well completions.
  • Reservoir Surveillance: Next-generation monitoring technologies such as fiber-optic sensing, 4D seismic, and digital twins for real-time reservoir management.

This Special Issue of Applied Sciences aims to provide a comprehensive platform enabling academics and industry professionals to share cutting-edge research that will enhance recovery, improve operational efficiency, and navigate a path toward a more sustainable energy future.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
