Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to present this Special Issue entitled “Combating Biofilm-Related Infections: Novel Therapeutics and Strategies.” Biofilm-related infections include device-related infections, when biofilms are developed in medical devices such as catheters, implants, or contact lenses, and tissue-related infections such as chronic lung infections, chronic wounds, osteomyelitis, and endocarditis, among others. Biofilm-associated infections remain a huge clinical challenge due to their intrinsic tolerance to antibiotics and their contribution to antimicrobial resistance, leading to treatment failure, chronic infection, and risk of recurrence.
This Special Issue brings together original research articles and comprehensive reviews highlighting recent advances in the understanding and management of biofilm-related infections. Contributions span multidisciplinary topics, including the following:
- Emerging anti-biofilm agents;
- Biofilm-targeted drug delivery systems;
- Immunomodulatory and host-directed therapies
- Quorum-sensing inhibition;
- Natural products with anti-biofilm activity;
- Combination treatment strategies;
- Innovative approaches for biofilm eradication;
- AI-driven methods for advanced biofilm studies;
- Emerging diagnostic strategies for biofilm-associated infections.
By integrating fundamental insights with translational and clinical perspectives, this collection aims to provide a timely overview of current challenges and emerging solutions in the field. We hope that the work presented in this Special Issue will stimulate further research and foster the development of effective strategies to prevent and treat biofilm-related infections.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
