Best PhD Thesis Award
Launched in 2021, the Materials Best PhD Thesis Award recognizes young scholars who have produced outstanding PhD theses in the field of materials science and engineering, hoping to further encourage the continuation of their outstanding work and contribution to their field. The application process for this award is open from November to July every year and the winners are announced in September.
The Prize:
– CHF 800;
– A certificate;
– A voucher to waive the article processing charges (APCs) for one submission in the journal (subject to peer review), valid for one year.

Eligibility and Requirements
– The candidate must be a PhD student or recently qualified PhD graduate who has produced an outstanding PhD thesis;
– The PhD thesis must be their original work;
– It must be defended in 2025/2026.
List of Documents for Application
– An executive summary of the PhD thesis in English of around 3000 words;
– A letter from the candidate’s PhD supervisor recommending them for consideration for this award;
– The candidate’s CV, including a list of their publications related to their thesis;
– An electronic copy of their PhD thesis;
– A scanned copy of their PhD diploma (or a certificate confirming their status as a PhD student studying at a school or research institute or going to graduate or participate in graduation thesis defenses).
