It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Special and Inclusive Education” Section in Education Sciences, Prof. Dr. James M. Kauffman, who passed away on 25 September 2024 in Afton, Virginia. We are deeply grateful for his invaluable contributions to the journal and the lasting legacy his research has left on the academic community.
Prof. Dr. Kauffman was a tireless advocate for compassionate and effective special education for children and youths with disabilities. His dedication and passion for the field were unparalleled, and his absence leaves an irreplaceable void. He was not only a brilliant scholar but also a person of great integrity, kindness, and warmth, whose influence extended far beyond his professional accomplishments.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at the University of Virginia and internationally. While we mourn his untimely loss, we also celebrate his life, his groundbreaking work, and the enduring impact he has had on the field of special education. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations.
Prof. Dr. Kauffman will be dearly missed, and his memory will remain with us always.
