Prof. Dennis K. P. Ng Appointed Associate Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Biology and Medicine” in Nanomaterials

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dennis K. P. Ng has been appointed Associate Section Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Biology and Medicine” in Nanomaterials (ISSN: 2079-4991).

Prof. Dennis K. P. Ng received his B.Sc. and M.Phil. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He then pursued his D.Phil. in inorganic chemistry at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. After spending one year at the California Institute of Technology as a research fellow, he returned to his alma mater in 1994. He is presently a professor in the Department of Chemistry of CUHK. His current research interests lie in the chemistry of functional dyes, focusing on their synthesis, bio-conjugation, bio-orthogonal chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and applications in photodynamic therapy, bio-imaging, logic devices, and renewable energy production. Thus far, he has published more than 260 papers in international journals with an h-index of 62.

The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dennis K.P. Ng, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views on the research area:

The interdisciplinary nature of Nanomaterials can bridge the gap among various scientific fields. The “Biology and Medicine” Section, in particular, focuses on the application of nanotechnology in biology and medicine, which perfectly matches my research aspirations. This role enables me to collaborate with esteemed researchers from various backgrounds, fostering an environment of learning and promoting exchange in the global scientific community.

Through this platform, I wish to be able to encourage and disseminate innovative and high-quality research to advance our understanding of the interactions of nanomaterials with biological systems and promote the translation of the findings into practical medical applications.

There is no doubt that the future of this field of research is incredibly promising. As a matter of fact, nanotechnology has revolutionized the field of medicine. We can expect to see more sophisticated nanomaterials being developed for targeted drug delivery, controlled drug release and activation, multimodal imaging, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, immunotherapy, etc. The high versatility of nanomaterials could also facilitate studies to deepen our understanding of various biological phenomena.
