MDPI Scientific Publishing Exchange with ICS (Institut Catala de la Salut), 4 June 2025

MDPI is excited to collaborate with ICS (Institut Català de la Salut) to host an exclusive online scientific publishing workshop for empowering researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to be successful in academic publishing. This workshop will cover key aspects of MDPI’s Open Access publishing model, including the Editorial Process and the use of AI in scientific publishing.

Chair:

Prof. Dr. Josep Vidal Alaball

Born in Berga, he moved to the UK in 1998, where he stayed for 9 years. In 2002, he completed a family medicine specialty in Devon and moved to Wales to work as a clinical researcher and professor at Cardiff University. At the end of 2006, he finished his career in the UK and returned to Catalonia to work as a rural doctor. During his career, he has combined clinical practice with management tasks in primary care. With a Ph.D. in telemedicine, he currently works as a family doctor and is the Head of the Research and Innovation Unit in Primary Care of Central Catalonia, where he coordinates a team of clinical researchers focused on research and innovation in health services, mainly oriented toward improving the efficiency of primary care services. He is part of the PROSAARU research group (Health Promotion in the Rural Area), where he leads research on new technologies and telemedicine. He is an adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia and a member of EURIPA, the European Association of Rural Doctors, and the assembly of the WONCA Working Group on Rural Practice (RuralWonca).

Dr. Marta Colomer

Dr. Marta Colomer obtained her biology degree and master’s degree in advanced microbiology from the University of Barcelona, Spain. She holds a Ph.D. in environmental microbiology and biotechnology from the same university, followed by two postdoctoral degrees earned at Texas Tech University, USA, and the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Centre, Spain, respectively. She joined MDPI in 2020, where she currently works as a Public Affairs Specialist. She is responsible for managing MDPI’s public affairs and advocacy initiatives across Europe, building relationships with key stakeholders in the academic, media, and governmental sectors to support open access publishing.

Dr. Enric Sayas

Dr. Sayas holds a Ph.D. in biotechnology from the Universitat Politècnica de València. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Geneva, he joined MDPI in 2016, where he gained extensive experience in editorial processes and served as the Office Director of MDPI Barcelona. Now, as a business analyst for MDPI’s AI team, he combines his editorial expertise with his passion for artificial intelligence. He works closely with the technical team to develop and implement AI-driven solutions tailored to editorial needs, enhancing efficiency and decision-making in scientific publishing.
