Del Dicho al Hecho, Hay Mucho Trecho: Employing Testimonio in SBYD Research

Round 1

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis is very well written and an interesting proposal. I think some re-arranging can strengthen it at the beginning. Additionally, if you can find more about the methods or procedures for collecting and telling a Testimonio that would be helpful. I get that procedures may go against the thesis of this work but maybe more encouragement for utilization and ideas for implementation can help people attempt to implement this method more readily.
Elaborate on PYD what makes it different from SBYD. Here they seem synonymous. Also it would make your aim to be include testimonios in PYD and SBYD settings.
Page 2 paragraph 2 - remove positive youth development (PYD) and replace with PYD.
Finally, McGarry et al. (2023) contend that both the SBYD, and positive youth development (PYD) frameworks are “race neutral” (p. 185) as many SBYD organizations “make decisions that do not adequately incorporate the perspectives of Black and Latino/a youth” (p. 185).
Perhaps focus on only SBYD not PYD. I know they are interwoven and similar making it difficult to extract. You have PYD explained more on page 10 but consider moving it up to page 2 to address this conflict.
Page 3 I believe the quote is not formatted properly.
General comment there are many quotes used to explain Testimonio.
Is it purposefully Spanglish for the Testimonio? Is that the actual transcription or does it start it with translation then taper off?
