Cover Story: A multi-objective optimization of a machine learning algorithm has been developed and used to reduce the carbon footprint of wireless telecommunication. Various hyperparameter combinations, including layers, neurons, optimizer algorithm, batch size, and dropout, have been assessed to evaluate energy consumption and performance. Using a practical case study and following the training phase of a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) algorithm, our analysis showed the importance of selecting optimal hyperparameters to achieve a balance between minimizing energy consumption and maximizing machine learning performance.
