The aim of the study is to identify possible patterns in ecological and socio-economic factors, when analysing the historical catch data for amber jack fishery.

basically, I found the study worth of interest, however, some more input and corrections are needed.

The introduction well represents the topic represented by the greater amberjack fishery. Once introduced by scientific name and common name (since the introduction), I would suggest using only one of them; this could increase the readiness.

Line 73: “one the primary” please correct the typos/ refuse.

Figure 1: please clarify what is meant for % of relative importance and its difference with economic importance: they seems to be something different, despite I presume they refer to the same data. Consider also to add the % value.

Line 103 to 113: some fisheries management strategies are listed, regarding the S. dumerili; please clarify/highlight the effect of the fisheries management strategies described, to better understand its contribution/impact in managing greater amberjack fishery;

Line 150: data from Palma Wharf records were used to address the historical  trends from the period before 200 by averaging detailed data. But, from 144 I see that the historical records from the period 1950 to 2018 were obtained from the Sea Around Us. It is not clear how you handled the overlap 2000 – 2018. Only when it comes to read the figure 3 this can be understood. I would suggest clarifying this point.

In MM it is reported that data are averaged by year, month, and for CPUE by by trip. In figure 4 it is reported about a “daily” catches. Figure 4 A an B seem to be not consistent with the description in MM; perhaps a graph by month could be considered, which could also be linked to 4C and D.

Line 258: purse seine is quite a target-species fishing technique, so it is not so “revealing” that it has a targeting pattern. All the other fishing techniques are quite less    target-species fishing techniques. Moreover, at this point it could be necessary to clarify what is meant for small scale fisheries; up to this point, the SSF was mentioned as fleet segment, not it is important at least to name the techniques here considered, as SSF considered a number of passive gears.

Line 268: in fact, according to figure 6B, Verderol reached likely 15 €/kg only in august (month 8); the peak is between June and July.

Line 326: lower catches during cold seasons can be influenced also by weather conditions, much more if the study consider SSF landing data. It is hard to me to relate the decrease in catch only to ecological factors, migrations, temporal spawning-window, etc. moreover, what do we know about other fisheries for the same periods, perhaps from trawling for comparing catch trends? At least it is possible to say that only those fishing techniques mentioned can be predicted by this analysis (line 333).

I cannot follow the discussion when it speaks (line 345) about socio-economic factors; how many factors are considered? i can see only an economic factor which is the price, and the behaviour of tourists as social factor. I cannot see other factors; please clarify which other factors are highlighted in this study.

Moreover, the regulation can be considered as social factor. Regulations have influence on the society much more than a consequence of a social need or input. Please comment.
