Thyroidectomy and Its Complications: A Comprehensive Analysis

4. Discussion
5. Conclusions
6. Key Messages
- Although thyroid surgery is a routine and quite safe procedure, complications may occur with significant impact on the quality of life of the patient.
- There is a statistically significant correlation between the type of surgery (total thyroidectomy) and the risk of vocal fold palsy, but no correlation was found with the type of thyroid pathology.
- A careful pre-operative evaluation and discussion with a multidisciplinary team could be useful to reduce the risk of post-operative complications.
