Cover Story: This study used an online survey among patients with rare diseases in Italy to explore the relationship between physical activity and measures of well-being and quality of life. We collected responses from 397 patients with 79 different rare diseases. In analyzing the significant protective factors across disease macrocategories, we determined how many hours of physical activity per week can have a positive impact on the overall well-being of these patients. Moreover, the respondents indicated their motivations for and main obstacles that discourage them from participating in physical activity. Our findings highlight the importance of incorporating physical activity into the care plans of individuals with rare diseases. By addressing the challenges and providing resources and support, we can help them lead more fulfilling and active lives. View this paper
