Cover Story: Limited research has directly investigated factors that might impact the mental health of eSport athletes. To address this gap in the literature, competitive student eSport athletes were surveyed, and the findings illustrated that stressors, sleep quality, burnout, and social phobia anxiety were all significant predictors of mental ill health in this sample. Specific findings included how the daytime dysfunction subscale of sleep and the exhaustion subscale of burnout were both strong, significant predictors of mental ill health. These findings identify potential risk factors of mental ill health for this group and inform the development of evidence-based healthcare provision to support the mental health of eSport athletes.
