Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript presents a study on a bi-layer Ti silicate zeolite membrane which was prepared by the authors by an original fabrication procedure.

Although the preformances of the membrane for desalination are not markely improved, I think that this bilayer membrane is worthy of interest.

So I suggest the puglication of this manuscript.

Minor points:

The quality of SEM micrographs shoud be improved. The rows reported at the micrographs bottom (in the black strip) are not necessary. Also add a marker clearly indicationg dimensions. The one present in the right of the bottom is not clear. What is ICP? Fig. 1 is not clear at all for me. Pleae discuss more deeply results in section 3.2. adding comments of the alfa and beta values and some text row describing the dusty gas model. Are the obtained alfa and beta values compatible with the evaluated pore size?

Reviewer 2 Report

General comments:

Is it possible that pinhole-free upper layer of period-TS-1 is also a result of different gel composition after 1st and 2nd crystallization cycle?

Particular comments:

Introduction: a) please give scheme representing mono- and bilayer membrane formation, b) add specific examples of usage (see line 30) Enumerate all substance used Explain all abbreviations when used first time (see O.D. (line 62), TPAOH (line 64)) Cooling rate should be denoted as 5K/min (not “-5”) (line 69) Line 140 “Based on a recognized crystallization mechanism [21-24],” – describe shortly to give better insight into this phenomenon 1 – regarding membrane thickness “zeolite upper membrane layer” should be written instead “zeolite membrane” Line 152: change “larger” into “thicker” Add Fig. 9 reference in text

Language should be revised (some errors: “zeolite power” line 132 etc.). In some places rather informal language style was used. Some small mistakes should be also revised (“Figure.1”, “second-TS-1membrane”)
