Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The present manuscript is a very good review of the technology of the electrochemical biosensors based on interdigitated electrode.  It addresses the key progresses in the field, with focus on 3D electrodes and their fabrication methods.  It performs also a good comparison between different electrode configurations of the electrochemical /bio sensors.    It also addresses the key challenges of these technologies before becoming commercial products.

I recommend publishing the manuscript as it is.

Reviewer 2 Report

The submitted review by Fatimah Ibrahim and coworkers has highlighted the investigation on μ/n-IDEA as working electrodes in four-electrode electrochemical sensors in terms of two-dimensional planar IDEA and three-dimensional IDEA configurations. Theis review also depicted the challenges faced by current IDEAs-based electrochemical biosensors and their possible resolutions for future avenue. Thus, I recommend its publication in Nanomaterials.

Reviewer 3 Report

The principle and use of the Interdigitated Electrode Array (IDEA) in the creation of bioanalytical systems has been known for more than 30 years ago. Nevertheless, such concentrated material, which is presented in the review, is quite rare.

The review will be of interest to readers of Nanomaterials magazine. The review can be published in the submitted form.

Reviewer 4 Report

This study considered interdigitated electrodes in MEMS/NEMS applications such as biosensors and electrochemical sensors. This review well organized current issues about designing a strategy from a geometrical point of view and well-explained theory. The review paper is worth to be pusblished in this present from for understanding IDEA-based sensing applications.
