Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The structure of the discussion and design of this paper is rigorous, the structure and principle of the research object is clearly described, the experimental design of the verification experiment is reasonable, and the conclusion of this paper is clear and reasonable.

1. Perhaps the title of this article could be changed to "Design and experimental verification of Targeted and Variable Sprayer for the Potato".

2. At the end of the summary, the significance of this design for the subsequent development and the subsequent improvement of the design can be mentioned.

3. The low cost in the design goal is not reflected in the subsequent articles.

4. The ICONS (a) and (b) in line 99 May be mismarked.

5. The external vibration source is a motor with an excitation frequency of 15Hz, which is close to the first-order natural frequency of 23.378HZ. How to determine the possibility of resonance is slight? The argument for “From 1st order, the natural frequency of the vehicle body far exceeds the excitation frequency, so the possibility of resonance is slight, which can meet the actual requirements of use.” is not strong enough.

6. The three curves in Figure 5 (d) Typical unit stress should indicate which positions they are in. Lest the reader question the following conclusions. In addition, the maximum value in the figure is 95N, and the article mentions that the maximum value is 10N.

7. The chart in line 238 should be formatted in the same way as above.

8. Equation (24) in line 263 should be replaced by Equation (23).

9. It is better to mark the location of three UWB base stations in Figure 10 to help readers understand.

10. Since the ground on which the sprayer operates is often uneven and undulating, does the sprayer have the problem of overturning and falling? If so, how was it resolved?

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript is interesting devoted to the problem of precision spraying of potatoes, reducing the environmental burden on the ecosystem and is of scientific and practical interest. The review is sufficient, the links are all on the topic of the study.

To improve the quality of the manuscript, I would recommend making some changes.

1. It should be noted in the manuscript that we are talking about a mock-up sample for the study of sprayer operating modes and control modes, and not about a finished machine that can be used in industrial conditions. Due to the fact that the areas of plantations under potatoes are very large and high-performance sprayers with a working speed of 6-8km/h are needed. This mock-up sample in the form in which it is presented is not suitable for industrial use according to several criteria :

- problems of stability, chassis (small wheels on loose soil);

- problems of battery life (small tank volume and tank volume).

2. The width of the machine is 1.3 meters, and what was the scheme of planting potatoes during field research?

3. The article should provide more information about the tests, namely:

- what dye was used in the tests?

- what type and parameters of control cards were used during the tests?

- what type of nozzles were used in the sprayer and their characteristics?

4. More fully present the data on the test results:

-provide data on the weighted average median-mass diameter of droplet traces in micrometers;

- provide data on the density of the coating of the surface of the treatment with drops, at least, pieces per square centimeter. (pcs / cm2).

5. Expand the conclusions and indicate what specific new data was obtained by conducting this research in comparison with the information provided in the review.
