Manuscript: Key Factors Influencing Chinese Consumers' Demand for Naturally Dyed Garments: Data Analysis through KJ Method and

KANO Model

Journal: Sustainability

Manuscript ID: sustainability-2801390

The paper entitled as "Key Factors Influencing Chinese Consumers' Demand for Naturally Dyed Garments: Data Analysis through KJ Method and KANO Model" has significant merits. However, conctribution should be highlighed. Also, there are issues to be checked and corrected.

1) the contribution of the paper and its placement in the existent literature and contributions are not well discussed and stated in relevant places, including the abstract and intro and other relevant sections such as discussion and conclusion. It is advocated to revise the paper with this respect.

2) Annotations should be stated in the abstract. Specific empirical results should be stated such as key parameters and how this leads to contributions. Introduction is clearer and make the reader understand what the focus of the paper is. Abstract is not.

Which companies? Which consumers? Which segment/sectors? Which deviations or contributions from or for the existent literature?

3) Line 40 should be a new paragraph.

4) Introduction should also be extended with other country examples such as India.

5) Reference to be added for Kano at line 100 when the explanation started. Kano is not the main method only. Study benefits from Kj and coefficient determination of better-worse. It is better to state the method selection and expected contributions here after line 100 with a short paragraph. After this paragraph, provide a 2-3 sentence section for sectioning of paper. I suggest taking the method explanation starting from line 100 and also the figure that follows and to put them in the methods section.

6) Reference should be added for 3.2.4. Satisfaction Coefficient subheading in the text.

7) Empirical section needs robustness analysis.

8) Extend the discussion with the following. Among these, 1st paper is already in the references section.

9) As a limitation, sample size is stated. The overall sample is not that low, almost close to 400. Main issue is with the number of experts at the initial stage, number is only 12. Authors can make this section clearer.

10)Reference section is good with recent references. However formating issues should be checked.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article titled "Key Factors Influencing Chinese Consumers' Demand for Naturally Dyed Garments: Data Analysis through KJ Method and KANO Model" is an interesting and well-written article. However, there are certain shortcomings:

-In the introduction, the authors frequently note "that the textile industry is one of the major sources of environmental pollution in the industrial sector and that the choice of clothing products or the application of materials and technologies in their production process is critical for the protection of Earth's resources and the long-term development of humanity". However, the authors do not provide numerical (statistical) data to support this claim, either globally or specifically for China. In particular, data demonstrating the environmental harm caused by synthetic dyes should be mentioned. Considering the authors' statements such as, "Given the destructive impact of textile dyeing on the environment and society, many synthetic dyes have been banned in several countries", providing numerical data on environmental pollution caused by synthetic dyes should not be problematic.

-Clearly identify the research gap. Statements such as "the KANO model has been widely used to analyze consumer service quality needs and enhance customer satisfaction, but its application in the field of environmentally friendly dyeing and weaving is still rare" or "…the integration of KJ Analysis Method and KANO Model presents a novel solution…" are insufficient.

-If hypotheses are not established, it would be beneficial to formulate research questions (different from interview questions, as presented for example in Table 2).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is a highly completed work. I think this article is logical and thorough, and its theoretical innovation is also prominent enough. I only offer several suggestions to the author to help him improve it:

First, in the summary, I recommend that you do not include symbols greater than(>) signs, but instead use your statement to express which factors are more important. In addition, it is best to include the theoretical contribution of your article in the introduction.

Second, in the introduction, although the author puts forward many realistic examples to prove the necessity of your research problem. Is it possible to add some data? I believe the data will be more intuitive and persuasive.

Third, I suggest that the KANO model can be appropriately simplified and not specifically talked about. That, of course, is the author's right.

Fourthly, in part 2.2 of the paper, it is suggested that the author should summarize and sort out in a certain order rather than list the literature.

Fifth, the questionnaire part, it is suggested to refine the collection process of the questionnaire.
