Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors of the paper "Perceived over qualification and Innovative behavior: high-order moderating effects of Length of service" present a relevant topic, namely the "impact of perceived over qualifications on innovative behavior of employees and the internal mechanism", a particularly important aspect for safety and security employees globally, which makes the work have a multiplier effect.

The bibliographic sources, citations, concepts, theories and hypotheses established in the paper are properly used by the authors of the research. Specifically, those related to the theory of self-assessment and the theory of the face, based on "the relationship between perceived over qualification and innovative employee behavior." The hypotheses are clearly mentioned for example “Hypothesis 2a (H2a). The confidence felt has a positive impact on innovative behavior". The bibliographic sources are objectively selected and cited accordingly, they support the applicative orientation of the paper based on relevant papers and identified by the authors in the literature. For example, "the innovative behavior of employees is an important guarantee for the company to maintain its competitive advantage and achieve sustainable development [7]".

The research methodology is simplified, respectively the method used is the method of testing the hypotheses proposed in this paper, by the method of the questionnaire through which data are collected from general employees in enterprises (250 questionnaires collected and interpreted by the authors of the paper). Based on the data, the authors measure over qualification based on the scale developed by Johnson and Johnson on perceived over qualification [56], with reference to the four-item scale developed by Sim et al. to measure the qualification perceived by employees [57].

The research results are presented by the research authors based on the interpretation of the data collected through the employee questionnaire, testing through this tool the hypotheses defined by. However, we suggest to the authors of the research to highlight the main scientific results as a personal contribution to the scientific literature, given that the results are adequately presented but very focused on the application side and we appreciate to highlight the scientific side of the paper.

The conclusions are presented by the authors of the research, respectively the authors emphasize that "the mechanism of differentiation between perceived over qualification and innovative behavior". Moreover, the authors of the study also present the limitations of the study, as well as the involvement in future research. Moreover, as we mentioned in the results chapter, we appreciate that the personal scientific results that contribute to the scientific literature should be highlighted.

We congratulate the research team, we suggest the revision of the paper according to the above mentioned.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper concentrates on the important issue from the perspective of enterprises and sustainable business development in regard to the impact of perceived overqualifications on employees' innovative behavior and the internal mechanism.

However, before publication the paper needs following improvements:

  1. Motivation is weak. Authors could better define the research question and the aim of the paper. Moreover, they could better point out the existing gap in the literature.
  2. Introduction should be extended, i.e. brief information on used methods, why this method was chosen instead of etc.
  3. The references should be refreshed. Do not use references older than 15 years. Literature review and improvements in regard to literature background should be made. Examples of articles that may be useful for the authors identifying similar contributions and better show what is the specific contribution.

In my opinion these four references cannot be omitted.

  1. Discussion should be better. The results are presented clearly, but the findings are not compared and contrasted with relevant literature. Linking theoretical considerations with empirical findings and providing some planning insights is critical in a journal with the scope of Sustainability.

I hope that my comments are helpful to you as you continue your work on this project. Good luck!
