Title: Molten salts for sensible thermal energy storage: a review and an energy performance analysis

The manuscript is a review of the materials for thermal energy storage, selecting 15 such materials. The authors showed that nitrate-based materials are the best choice for their thermophysical properties, and the chloride-based materials, due to their low cost, are the best choice for economic impact. The studied subject is interesting and quite new. The review is well documented, having 130 references.

I have the following observations:

  1. The chemical and mathematical formulas must be corrected in entire manuscript, in order to introduce the subscripts.
  2. In Table 1 – “KZrF 32.5 KF - 67.5 ZnF4” – Is it ZrF4?
  3. Equation 4 must be corrected, it is not true.
  4. In Eq. 6 – M(OH) must be replaced with MOH.
  5. The references from 2020 are missing, and only few references from 2019 can be found.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper has presented an extensive review study on thermal energy storage material and performance analysis. It provides lots of clear guidance and summarized information for the future work. I really enjoy reading and learning from it. After reviewing the manuscript, I have only two minor comments for your reference:

  1. The Abstract and Conclusion are kind of short and too brief. As a review paper, I am expecting the conclusions and introduction can be extended in more depth and instructive for the readers and new learners.
  2. Some symbols of chemical formulas are bit messed up. A nomenclatures are recommended for the parameters and coefficients used in the equation.
