Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

Abdominal emergencies and traumatic injuries continue to represent a major challenge in surgical practice, requiring prompt diagnosis, rapid decision-making, and effective operative strategies. In recent years, significant advancements in surgical techniques, perioperative management, and technological support have led to improved patient outcomes.

Innovations such as minimally invasive approaches, damage control surgery, hybrid operating environments, and enhanced recovery protocols are increasingly shaping the modern management of acute abdominal conditions and trauma. At the same time, the integration of imaging, digital tools, and artificial intelligence is opening new perspectives in surgical planning and intraoperative decision-making.

This Topic aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of high-quality research focusing on novel operative approaches, clinical strategies, and technological innovations in the management of abdominal emergencies and trauma.

This Topic welcomes submissions focusing on, but not limited to:

  • Minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery in emergency settings;
  • Damage control surgery and resuscitation strategies;
  • Operative management of abdominal trauma (blunt and penetrating);
  • Surgical treatment of intra-abdominal infections and sepsis;
  • Advances in imaging and intraoperative guidance;
  • Hybrid operating rooms and multidisciplinary approaches;
  • Enhanced recovery pathways in emergency surgery;
  • Decision-making in critically ill and high-risk patients;
  • Artificial intelligence and digital technologies in surgery.

Preprints.org is a multidisciplinary platform offering a preprint service designed to facilitate the early sharing of your research. It supports and empowers your research journey from the very beginning.

MDPI Topics is collaborating with Preprints.org and has established a direct connection between MDPI journals and the platform. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by posting their preprints at Preprints.org prior to publication:

  1. Share your research immediately: disseminate your ideas prior to publication and establish priority for your work.
  2. Safeguard your intellectual contribution: Protect your ideas with a time-stamped preprint that serves as proof of your research timeline.
  3. Boost visibility and impact: Increase the reach and influence of your research by making it accessible to a global audience.
  4. Gain early feedback: Receive valuable input and insights from peers before submitting to a journal.
  5. Ensure broad indexing: Web of Science (Preprint Citation Index), Google Scholar, Crossref, SHARE, PrePubMed, Scilit and Europe PMC.
