Background/Objectives: This study investigated the association between cochlear implant (CI) users’ assessed perception of musical sound quality and their subjective music perception and music-related quality of life (QoL). The aim was to provide a comprehensive evaluation by integrating a relatively objective Turkish Multiple Stimulus with Hidden Reference and Anchor (TR-MUSHRA) test and a subjective music questionnaire. Methods: Thirty CI users and thirty normal-hearing (NH) adults were assessed. Perception of sound quality was measured using the TR-MUSHRA test. Subjective assessments were conducted with the Music-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire (MuRQoL). Results: TR-MUSHRA results showed that while NH participants rated all filtered stimuli as perceptually different from the original, CI users provided similar ratings for stimuli with adjacent high-pass filter settings, indicating less differentiation in perceived sound quality. On the MuRQoL, groups differed on the Frequency subscale but not the Importance subscale. Critically, no significant correlation was found between the TR-MUSHRA scores and the MuRQoL subscale scores in either group. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that TR-MUSHRA is an effective tool for assessing perceived sound quality relatively objectively, but there is no relationship between perceiving sound quality differences and measures of self-reported musical engagement and its importance. Subjective music experience may represent different domains beyond the perception of sound quality. Therefore, successful auditory rehabilitation requires personalized strategies that consider the multifaceted nature of music perception beyond simple perceptual judgments. Full article

This study presents a cross-cultural comparison of two fortified residences—Palazzo Farnese in Italy and Dong’s Fortified Compound in China—through a triadic analytical framework encompassing architectural form, symbolic ornamentation, and public perception. By combining field observation, iconographic interpretation, and digital ethnography, the research investigates how heritage meaning is constructed, encoded, and reinterpreted across distinct sociocultural contexts. Empirical materials include architectural documentation, decorative analysis, and a curated dataset of 4947 user-generated images and 1467 textual comments collected from Chinese and international platforms between 2020 and 2024. Methods such as CLIP-based visual clustering and BERTopic-enabled sentiment modelling were applied to extract patterns of perception and symbolic emphasis. The findings reveal contrasting representational logics: Palazzo Farnese encodes dynastic authority and Renaissance cosmology through geometric order and immersive frescoes, while Dong’s Compound conveys Confucian ethics and frontier identity via nested courtyards and traditional ornamentation. Digital responses diverge accordingly: international users highlight formal aesthetics and photogenic elements; Chinese users engage with symbolic motifs, family memory, and ritual significance. This study illustrates how historically fortified residences are reinterpreted through culturally specific digital practices, offering an interdisciplinary approach that bridges architectural history, symbolic analysis, and digital heritage studies. In response to the stress commonly experienced by young people in high-pressure daily environments, a music-based stress-relief interactive system was developed by integrating music-assisted care with emotion-sensing technology. The design principles of the system were established through a literature review on stress, music listening, emotion detection, and interactive devices. A prototype was created accordingly and refined through interviews with four experts and eleven users participating in a preliminary experiment. The system is grounded in a four-stage guided imagery and music framework, along with a static activity model focused on relaxation-based stress management. Emotion detection was achieved using a wearable EEG device (NeuroSky’s MindWave Mobile device) and a two-dimensional emotion model, and the emotional states were translated into visual representations using seasonal and weather metaphors. A formal experiment involving 52 users was conducted. The system was evaluated, and its effectiveness confirmed, through user interviews and questionnaire surveys, with statistical analysis conducted using SPSS 26 and AMOS 23. The findings reveal that: (1) integrating emotion sensing with music listening creates a novel and engaging interactive experience; (2) emotional states can be effectively visualized using nature-inspired metaphors, enhancing user immersion and understanding; and (3) the combination of music listening, guided imagery, and real-time emotional feedback successfully promotes emotional relaxation and increases self-awareness. With the increasing application of digital interactive installations in museums, their role in enhancing audience engagement and cultural dissemination effectiveness has become prominent. However, ensuring the sustained use of these technologies remains challenging. Based on distributed cognition and perceived value theories, this study investigates key factors influencing users’ continuous usage of digital interactive installations using the Capital Museum in Beijing as a case study. A theoretical model was constructed and empirically validated through Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling (Bayesian-SEM) with 352 valid samples. The findings reveal that perceived ease of use plays a critical direct predictive role in continuous usage intention. Environmental factors and peer interaction indirectly influence user behavior through learner engagement, while user satisfaction serves as a core mediator between perceived ease of use and continuous usage intention. Notably, perceived usefulness and entertainment showed no direct effects, indicating that convenience and social experience outweigh functional benefits in this context. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing interface design, fostering collaborative environments, and enhancing user satisfaction to promote sustained participation. This study provides practical insights for aligning digital innovation with audience needs in museums, thereby supporting the sustainable integration of technology in cultural heritage education and preservation. Road traffic accidents are a leading cause of injury and death among adolescents, making road safety education crucial. This study assesses the performance of and users’ opinions on the Route 2 School (R2S) traffic safety education program, designed for secondary school students (13–17 years) in Belgium. The program incorporates gamified e-learning modules containing, among others, podcasts, interactive 360° visuals, and virtual reality (VR), to enhance traffic knowledge, situation awareness, risk detection, and risk management. This study was conducted across several cities and municipalities within Belgium. More than 600 students from school years 3 to 6 completed the platform and of these more than 200 students filled in a comprehensive questionnaire providing detailed feedback on platform usability, preferences, and behavioral risk assessments. The results revealed shortcomings in traffic knowledge and skills, particularly among older students. Gender-based analysis indicated no significant performance differences overall, though females performed better in risk management and males in risk detection. Furthermore, students from cities outperformed those from municipalities. Feedback on the R2S platform indicated high usability and engagement, with VR-based simulations receiving the most positive reception. In addition, it was highlighted that secondary school students are high-risk groups for distraction and red-light violations as cyclists and pedestrians. This study demonstrates the importance of gamified, technology-enhanced road safety education while underscoring the need for module-specific improvements and regional customization. The findings support the broader application of e-learning methodologies for sustainable, behavior-oriented traffic safety education targeting adolescents. Full article

Person-centered navigation (PCN) in healthcare refers to a proactive collaboration among professionals, researchers, patients, and their families to guide individuals toward timely access to screening, treatment, follow-up, and psychosocial support. PCN—which includes professional, peer, and virtual guidance, is particularly crucial for rare cancers, where affected individuals face uncertainty, limited support, financial strain, and difficulties accessing relevant information, testing, and other services. The Canadian Cholangiocarcinoma Collaborative (C3) prioritizes PCN implementation to address these challenges in the context of Biliary Tract Cancers (BTCs). C3 uses a virtual PCN model and staffs a “C3 Research Navigator” who provides clinical and research navigation such as personalized guidance and support, facilitating access to molecular testing, clinical trials, and case reviews through national multidisciplinary rounds. C3 also supports a national network of BTC experts, a patient research registry, and advocacy activities. C3’s implementation strategies include co-design, timely delivery of support, and optimal outcomes across its many initiatives. Future priorities include expanding the C3 network, enhancing user engagement, and further integrating its innovative approach into routine care. Full article

Background: Mobile health applications have emerged as a novel tool to support secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (MI) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, the impact of app-based interventions on clinically meaningful outcomes such as hospital readmissions remains uncertain. Objective: To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of smartphone app-based interventions in reducing unplanned hospital readmissions among post-MI/PCI patients. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed was conducted for randomized controlled trials published between January 2020 and April 2025. Eligible studies evaluated smartphone apps designed for secondary cardiovascular prevention and reported on unplanned hospital readmissions. Risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses were performed based on follow-up duration and user adherence. Results: Four trials encompassing 827 patients met inclusion criteria. App-based interventions were associated with a significant reduction in unplanned hospital readmissions compared to standard care (RR 0.45; 95% CI: 0.23–0.89; p = 0.0219). Greater benefits were observed in studies with longer follow-up durations and higher adherence rates. Improvements in patient-reported outcomes, including health-related quality of life, were also documented. Heterogeneity was moderate. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were reported in only two studies and were not analyzed due to inconsistent definitions and low event rates. Conclusions: Smartphone applications for post-MI/PCI care are associated with reduced unplanned hospital readmissions and improved patient-reported outcomes. These tools may play a meaningful role in future cardiovascular care models, especially when sustained engagement and personalized features are prioritized. Full article

Catalysis research is complex and interdisciplinary, involving diverse physical effects and challenging data practices. Research data often captures only selected aspects, such as specific reactants and products, limiting its utility for machine learning and the implementation of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) workflows. To improve this, semantic structuring through ontologies is essential. This work extends the established ontologies by refining logical relations and integrating semantic tools such as the Web Ontology Language or the Shape Constraint Language. It incorporates application programming interfaces from chemical databases, such as the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes and the National Institute of Health’s PubChem database, and builds upon established ontologies. A key innovation lies in automatically decomposing chemical substances through database entries and chemical identifier representations to identify functional groups, enabling more generalized reaction classification. Using new semantic functionality, functional groups are flexibly addressed, improving the classification of reactions such as saponification and ester cleavage with simultaneous oxidation. A graphical interface (GUI) supports user interaction with the knowledge graph, enabling ontological reasoning and querying. This approach demonstrates improved specificity of the newly established ontology over its predecessors and offers a more user-friendly interface for engaging with structured chemical knowledge. Future work will focus on expanding ontology coverage to support a wider range of reactions in catalysis research. Full article

To enhance the performance of online food delivery (OFD) services, it is essential to strengthen consumers’ intentions to use OFD apps, which are the core interface of this business. Accordingly, this study aims to identify the cognitive mechanisms that shape consumers’ intentions to use OFD apps and explore strategies to encourage their adoption. To achieve this, the study develops a research model that incorporates segmented dimensions of service convenience as key motivational factors, along with variables from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A survey was conducted among OFD consumers in China, and the proposed research model was empirically tested using data from 478 valid responses. The analysis revealed that all six dimensions of service convenience serve as significant motivational drivers of OFD app usage. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that consumers’ coupon proneness and user-generated online reviews have significant moderating effects that reinforce the mechanism by which consumers adopt and use OFD apps. The findings and implications discussed in this study are expected to provide valuable insights and practical guidance for formulating effective strategies to promote more active consumer engagement with OFD apps in the future. This study dives into what drives people to use AR filters in the catering industry, focusing on the Hong Kong market. The main idea is to determine how “perceived value” shapes users’ intentions to engage with these filters. To do this, the research combines concepts from two popular models—the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Satisfaction–Loyalty Model (SLM)—to understand what influences perceived value. The survey data were then analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to see how perceived usefulness, enjoyment, satisfaction, and value connect to users’ intentions. The results showed that “perceived value” is a big deal—the main factor driving whether people want to use AR filters. Things like how useful or enjoyable the filters are and how satisfied users feel all play a role in shaping this perceived value. These findings are gold for marketing teams and AR developers, especially in the catering world. Combining TAM and the Satisfaction–Loyalty Model offers a fresh perspective on how AR technology influences consumer behavior. On top of that, it gives practical advice for businesses looking to make the most of AR filters in their marketing and customer experience strategies. Full article

This study investigates how remote multiplayer gameplay, enabled through Augmented Reality (AR), transforms spatial decision-making and enhances player experience in a location-based augmented reality game (LBARG). A remote multiplayer handheld-based AR game was designed and evaluated on how it influences players’ spatial decision-making strategies, engagement, and gameplay experience. In a user study involving 60 participants, we compared remote gameplay in our AR game with traditional hide-and-seek. We found that AR significantly transforms traditional gameplay by introducing different spatial interactions, which enhanced spatial decision-making and collaboration. Our results also highlight the potential of AR to increase player engagement and social interaction, despite the challenges posed by the added navigation complexities. These findings contribute to the engaging design of future AR games and beyond. Full article

Consumer-accessible and user-friendly smart products such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, have become widely used, adaptable, and acceptable devices to observe, assess, measure, and explore urban and natural environments. A drone’s relatively low cost and flexibility in the level of expertise required to operate it has enabled users from novice to industry professionals to adapt a malleable technology to various disciplines. This review examines the academic literature and maps how drones are currently being used in 93 rural and regional city councils in New South Wales, Australia. Through a systematic review of the academic literature and scrutiny of current drone use in these councils using publicly available information found on council websites, findings reveal potential uses of drone technology for local governments who want to engage with smart technology devices. We looked at how drones were being used in the management of the council’s environment; health and safety initiatives; infrastructure; planning; social and community programmes; and waste and recycling. These findings suggest that drone technology is increasingly being utilised in rural and regional areas. While the focus is on rural and regional New South Wales, a review of the academic literature and local council websites provides a snapshot of drone use examples that holds global relevance for local councils in urban and remote areas seeking to incorporate drone technology into their daily practice of city, town, or region governance. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using serious games for the (tele)rehabilitation of children with disabilities affected by the Ukrainian war. Additionally, it provides requirements for technologies that can be used in war-affected areas. Structured interviews and Likert scale assessments were conducted on-site and remotely with patients of the tertiary care facility in Ukraine. All participants used the telerehabilitation platform for motor and cognitive training. Nine serious games were employed, involving trunk tilts, upper limb movements, and head control. By mid-September 2023, 186 positive user experiences were evident, with 89% expressing interest in continued engagement. The platform’s accessibility, affordability, and therapeutic benefits were highlighted. The recommendations from user feedback informed potential enhancements, showcasing the platform’s potential to provide uninterrupted rehabilitation care amid conflict-related challenges. This study suggests that serious games solutions that suit the sociopolitical and economic context offer a promising solution to rehabilitation challenges in conflict zones. The positive user experiences towards using the platform with serious games indicate its potential in emergency healthcare provision. The findings emphasize the role of technology, particularly serious gaming, in mitigating the impact of armed conflicts on children’s well-being, thereby contributing valuable insights to healthcare strategies in conflict-affected regions. Requirements for technologies tailored to the context of challenging settings were defined. Full article

Steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) paradigms are widely used in brain–computer interface (BCI) systems due to their reliability and fast response. However, traditional static stimuli may reduce user comfort and engagement during prolonged use. This study proposes a dynamic stimulation paradigm combining periodic motion trajectories with speed control. Using four frequencies (6, 8.57, 10, 12 Hz) and three waveform patterns (sinusoidal, square, sawtooth), speed was modulated at 1/5, 1/10, and 1/20 of each frequency’s base rate. An offline experiment with 17 subjects showed that the low-speed sinusoidal and sawtooth trajectories matched the static accuracy (85.84% and 83.82%) while reducing cognitive workload by 22%. An online experiment with 12 subjects participating in a fruit-slicing game confirmed its practicality, achieving recognition accuracies above 82% and a System Usability Scale score of 75.96. These results indicate that coordinated trajectory and speed modulation preserves SSVEP signal quality and enhances user experience, offering a promising approach for fatigue-resistant, user-friendly BCI application. This study introduces a no-code educational platform created to introduce Internet of Things (IoT) to university students who lack programming experience. The platform allows users to set IoT sensor nodes, and create a wireless sensor network through a simple graphical interface. Sensors’ data can be sent to cloud services but they can also be stored locally, which makes our platform particularly realistic in fieldwork settings where internet access may be limited. The platform was tested in a pilot activity within a university course that previously covered IoT only in theory and was evaluated using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Results showed strong student engagement and high ratings for ease of use, usefulness, and future use intent. These findings suggest that a no-code approach can effectively bridge the gap between IoT technologies and learners in non-engineering fields. Full article
