This study assessed the effectiveness of stress-based cognitive-behavioral training compared to standard training in firefighters, emphasizing their ability to distribute extinguishing water and cool environments evenly during enclosure fires. Experiments took place at the Zbiroh training facility with two firefighter teams (Team A with stress-based training and Team B with standard training) under realistic conditions. Using 58 thermocouples and 4 radiometers, temperature distribution and radiant heat flux were measured to evaluate water distribution efficiency and cooling performance during interventions. Team A consistently achieved temperature reductions of approximately 320 °C in the upper layers and 250–400 °C in the middle layers, maintaining stable conditions, whereas Team B only achieved partial cooling, with upper-layer temperatures remaining at 750–800 °C. Additionally, Team A recorded lower radiant heat flux densities (e.g., 20.74 kW/m2 at 0°) compared to Team B (21.81 kW/m2), indicating more effective water application and adaptability. The findings confirm that stress-based training enhances firefighters’ operational readiness and their ability to distribute water effectively during interventions. This skill is essential for safer and effective management of indoor fires under extreme conditions. This study supports the inclusion of stress-based and scenario-based training in firefighter education to enhance safety and operational performance. Full article

This study systematically investigates 50 μm-diameter 631 stainless steel fine wires subjected to both sequential and simultaneous electrothermomechanical loading to simulate probe spring conditions in microelectronic test environments. Under cyclic current loading (~104 A/cm2), the 50 μm 631SS wire maintained electrical integrity up to 0.30 A for 15,000 cycles. Above 0.35 A, rapid oxide growth and abnormal grain coarsening resulted in surface embrittlement and mechanical degradation. Current-assisted tensile testing revealed a transition from recovery-dominated behavior at ≤0.20 A to significant thermal softening and ductility loss at ≥0.25 A, corresponding to a threshold temperature of approximately 200 °C. These results establish the endurance limit of 631 stainless steel wire under coupled thermal–mechanical–electrical stress and clarify the roles of Joule heating, oxidation, and microstructural evolution in electrical fatigue resistance. A degradation map is proposed to inform design margins and operational constraints for fatigue-tolerant, electrically stable interconnects in high-reliability probe spring applications. Full article

Inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) operations on underwater infrastructure remain costly and time-intensive because fully teleoperated remote operated vehicle s(ROVs) lack the range and dexterity necessary for precise cooperative underwater manipulation, and the alternative of using professional divers is ruled out due to the risk involved. This work presents and experimentally validates an autonomous, dual-I-AUV (Intervention–Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) system capable of assembling rigid pipeline segments through coordinated actions in a confined underwater workspace. The first I-AUV is a Girona 500 (4-DoF vehicle motion, pitch and roll stable) fitted with multiple payload cameras and a 6-DoF Reach Bravo 7 arm, giving the vehicle 10 total DoF. The second I-AUV is a BlueROV2 Heavy equipped with a Reach Alpha 5 arm, likewise yielding 10 DoF. The workflow comprises (i) detection and grasping of a coupler pipe section, (ii) synchronized teleoperation to an assembly start pose, and (iii) assembly using a kinematic controller that exploits the Girona 500’s full 10 DoF, while the BlueROV2 holds position and orientation to stabilize the workspace. Validation took place in a 12 m × 8 m × 5 m water tank. Results show that the paired I-AUVs can autonomously perform precision pipeline assembly in real water conditions, representing a significant step toward fully automated subsea construction and maintenance. Occupational heat stress represents an increasing challenge to safety and operational performance in underground mining, where elevated temperatures, humidity, and limited ventilation are common. This study proposes an integrated framework to analyze the systemic impact of heat stress on human reliability in mining operations. We conducted a systematic literature review to identify empirical studies addressing thermal exposure, extracting key operational functions for modeling. These functions were structured using the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) to reveal interdependencies and performance variability. Human reliability was evaluated using Fuzzy CREAM, which quantified the degree of contextual control associated with each function. Finally, we applied the Gaussian Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to prioritize functions based on thermal impact, contextual reliability, and systemic connectivity. The results showed that functions involving subjective or complex judgment, such as assessing thermal stress or identifying psychophysiological indicators, exhibited lower reliability and higher vulnerability. In contrast, monitoring and control functions based on standardized procedures were more stable and resilient. This combined approach identified critical points of systemic fragility and offers a robust decision-support tool for prioritizing thermal risk mitigation. The findings contribute to advancing the scientific understanding of heat stress impacts in mining and support the development of targeted interventions to enhance human performance and safety in extreme environments. Electromagnetic acoustic resonance (EMAR) is a well-established non-contact method for ultrasonic thickness measurement, typically operated at frequencies above 1 MHz using an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT). This study successfully extends EMAR into the sub-MHz range, allowing supply voltages below 60 V and thus offering safer and more cost-effective operation. Experiments were conducted on copper blocks approximately 20 mm thick, where a relative thickness accuracy of better than 0.2% is obtained. Regarding this result, the research identifies a critical design principle: Stable thickness resonances and subsequently accurate thickness measurement are achieved when the ratio of ultrasonic wavelength to EMAT track width (λ/w) falls below 1. This minimizes the excitation and interactions with structural eigenmodes, ensuring consistent measurement reliability. To support this, the study introduces a system-based model to simulate the EMAR method. The model provides detailed insights into how wave propagation affects the accuracy of EMAR measurements. Experimental results align well with the simulation outcome and confirm the feasibility of EMAR in the sub-MHz regime without compromising precision. These findings highlight the potential of low-voltage EMAR as a safer, cost-effective, and highly accurate approach for industrial ultrasonic thickness measurements. Full article

This paper proposes a compact, broadband, and low-profile filtering antenna designed for Sub-6 GHz communication. By applying characteristic mode analysis to the radiating elements, the operational mechanism of the antenna is clearly elucidated. The current cancellation among different radiating elements results in two radiation nulls in the primary radiation direction, effectively enhancing the filtering effect. The antenna achieves a wide operational bandwidth (S1110 dB) of 35.9% (4.3–6.4 GHz), making it highly suitable for Sub-6 GHz communication systems. Despite its compact size of 25 × 25 mm2, the antenna consistently maintains stable broadside radiation patterns, with a peak gain of 6.14 dBi and a minimal gain fluctuation of less than 1 dBi at 4.6–6.45 GHz. This design ensures reliable and robust communication performance for V2V systems operating in the designated frequency band. Full article

This study presents the first investigation into the application of ultrasonic vibration-assisted electrical discharge machining (UV-EDM) using graphite electrodes for external cylindrical surface machining—an essential surface in the production of tablet punches and sheet metal-forming dies. A custom ultrasonic horn was designed and fabricated using 90CrSi material to operate effectively at a resonant frequency of 20 kHz, ensuring stable vibration transmission throughout the machining process. A Box–Behnken experimental design was employed to explore the effects of five process parameters—vibration amplitude (A), pulse-on time (Ton), pulse-off time (Toff), discharge current (Ip), and servo voltage (SV)—on two key performance indicators: material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (Ra). The optimization process was conducted in two stages: single-objective analysis to maximize MRR while ensuring Ra < 4 µm, followed by a hybrid multi-objective approach combining NSGA-II and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The optimal solution achieved a high MRR of 9.28 g/h while maintaining Ra below the critical surface finish threshold, thus meeting the practical requirements for punch surface quality. The findings confirm the effectiveness of the proposed horn design and hybrid optimization strategy, offering a new direction for enhancing productivity and surface integrity in cylindrical EDM applications using graphite electrodes. Improving Balance Between Oxygen Permeability and Stability of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ Through High-Entropy Design

Currently, the trade-off between oxygen permeation flux and structural stability in conventional perovskite oxides restricts the practical application of oxygen permeable membranes. In this study, a high-entropy design was applied to the B-site of BSCF matrix materials, resulting in the successful synthesis of a high-entropy perovskite, Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.71Fe0.2Ta0.03Ni0.03Zr0.03O3−δ. The crystal structure, microstructure, and elemental composition of the material were systematically characterized and analyzed. Theoretical analysis and experimental characterization confirm that the material exhibits a stable single-phase high-entropy perovskite oxide structure. Under He as the sweep gas, the membrane achieved an oxygen permeation flux of 1.28 mL·cm−2·min−1 and operated stably for over 100 h (1 mm thick, 900 °C). In a 20% CO2/He atmosphere, the flux remained above 0.92 mL·cm−2·min−1 for over 100 h, demonstrating good CO2 tolerance. Notably, when the sweep gas is returned to the pure He atmosphere, the oxygen permeation flux fully recovers to 1.28 mL·cm−2·min−1, with no evidence of leakage. These findings indicate that the proposed B-site doping strategy can break the trade-off between oxygen permeability and structural stability in conventional perovskite membranes. This advancement supports the industrialization of oxygen permeable membranes and offers valuable theoretical guidance for the design of high-performance perovskite materials. Full article

Articulated arm coordinate measuring machines are designed for in situ use directly in manufacturing environments, enabling efficient dimensional control outside of climate-controlled laboratories. This study investigates the influence of ambient temperature variation on the accuracy of length measurements performed with the Hexagon Absolute Arm 8312. The experiment was carried out in a laboratory setting simulating typical shop floor conditions through controlled temperature changes in the range of approximately 20–31 °C. A calibrated steel gauge block was used as a reference standard, allowing separation of the influence of the measuring system from that of the measured object. The results showed that the gauge block length changed in line with the expected thermal expansion, while the articulated arm coordinate measuring machine exhibited only a minor residual thermal drift and stable performance. The experiment also revealed a constant measurement offset of approximately 22 µm, likely due to calibration deviation. As part of the study, an uncertainty budget was developed, taking into account all relevant sources of influence and enabling a more realistic estimation of accuracy under operational conditions. The study confirms that modern carbon composite articulated arm coordinate measuring machines with integrated compensation can maintain stable measurement behavior even under fluctuating temperatures in controlled environments. With the rapid advancement of maritime sports, the integration of auxiliary unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the efficiency and safety of maritime education, particularly in tasks such as buoy deployment and escort operations. This paper presents a novel high-precision trajectory tracking control algorithm designed to ensure stable navigation of the USVs along predefined competition boundaries, thereby facilitating the reliable execution of buoy placement and escort missions. First, the paper proposes an improved adaptive fractional-order nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control (AFONFTSMC) algorithm to achieve precise trajectory tracking of the reference path. To address the challenges posed by unknown environmental disturbances and unmodeled dynamics in marine environments, a nonlinear lumped disturbance observer (NLDO) with exponential convergence properties is proposed, ensuring robust and continuous navigation performance. Additionally, an artificial potential field (APF) method is integrated to dynamically mitigate collision risks from both static and dynamic obstacles during trajectory tracking. The efficacy and practical applicability of the proposed control framework are rigorously validated through comprehensive numerical simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed algorithm achieves superior trajectory tracking accuracy under complex sea conditions, thereby offering a reliable and efficient solution for maritime sports education and related applications. The geometric design of flow channels in bipolar plates is one of the critical features of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), as it determines the power output of the fuel cell and has a significant impact on its performance and durability. The function of the bipolar plate is to guide the transfer of reactant gases to the gas diffusion layer and catalytic layer inside the PEMFC, while removing unreacted gases and gas–liquid byproducts. Therefore, the design of the bipolar plate flow channel is directly related to the water and thermal management of the PEMFC. In order to improve the comprehensive performance of PEMFCs and ensure their safe and stable operation, it is necessary to design the flow channels in bipolar plates rationally and effectively. This study addresses the limitations of existing bipolar plate flow channels by proposing a new coupling of serpentine and radial channels. The distribution of oxygen, water concentrations, and temperature inside the channel is simulated using the multi-physics simulation software COMSOL Multiphysics 6.0. The performance of this novel design is compared with conventional flow channels, with a particular focus on the pressure drop and current density to evaluate changes in the output performance of the PEMFC. The results show that the maximum current density of this novel design is increased by 67.36% and 10.43% compared to straight channel and single serpentine channels, respectively. The main contribution of this research is the innovative design of a new coupling of serpentine and radial channels in bipolar plates, which improves the overall performance of the PEMFC. This study provides theoretical support for the design of bipolar plate flow channels in PEMFCs and holds significant importance for the green development of energy. Full article

Ceramic Isolated High-Torque Permanent Magnet Coupling for Deep-Sea Applications

Permanent magnetic couplings provide critical advantages for deep-sea systems through static-sealed, contactless power transmission. However, conventional metallic isolation sleeves incur significant eddy current losses, limiting efficiency and high-speed operation. Limited torque capacities fail to meet the operational demands of harsh marine environments. This study presents a novel permanent magnet coupling featuring a ceramic isolation sleeve engineered for deep-sea cryogenic ammonia submersible pumps. The ceramic sleeve eliminates eddy current losses and provides exceptional corrosion resistance in acidic/alkaline environments. To withstand 3.5 MPa hydrostatic pressure, a 6-mm-thick sleeve necessitates a 10 mm operational air gap, challenging magnetic circuit efficiency. To address this limitation, an improved 3D magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) model was developed that explicitly accounts for flux leakage and axial end-effects, enabling the accurate characterization of large air gap fields. Leveraging this model, a Taguchi method-based optimization framework was implemented by balancing key parameters to maximize the torque density. This co-design strategy achieved a 21% increase in torque density, enabling higher torque transfer per unit volume. Experimental validation demonstrated a maximum torque of 920 Nm, with stable performance under simulated deep-sea conditions. This design establishes a new paradigm for high-power leak-free transmission in corrosive, high-pressure marine environments, advancing applications from deep-sea propulsion to offshore energy systems. In order to improve the maintenance quality and material utilization efficiency during the maintenance process, this paper proposes a bidirectional maintenance method based on gear rack transmission and its related equipment. Based on the working principle, a geometric relationship model was established, which combines the structural parameters of the mold, punch, and gear system. Simultaneously, it solves the problem of motion attitude analysis of conjugate tooth profiles under non-standard meshing conditions, aiming to establish a constraint relationship between stamping motion and structural design parameters. On this basis, a constrained optimization model was developed by integrating multi-objective optimization theory to maximize maintenance efficiency. The NSGA-III algorithm is used to solve the model and obtain the Pareto front solution set. Subsequently, three optimal parameter configurations were selected for simulation analysis and experimental platform construction. The simulation and experimental results indicate that the veneer repair time ranges from 0.6 to 1.8 seconds, depending on the stamping speed. A reduction of 28 mm in die height decreases the repair time by approximately 0.1 seconds, resulting in an efficiency improvement of about 14%. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in repairing veneer defects. Vibration measurements further verify the system’s stable operation under parametric modeling and optimization design. The main vibration response occurs during the meshing and disengagement phases between the gear and rack. Full article

The converter valve is the core component of the ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission system, and its fault detection is very important to ensure the safe and stable operation of the transmission system. However, the voiceprint signals collected by converter stations under complex operating conditions are often affected by background noise, spikes, and nonlinear interference. Traditional methods make it difficult to achieve high-precision detection due to the lack of feature extraction ability and poor noise robustness. This paper proposes a fault-aware variational self-encoder model (FAVAE-AS) based on a weak correlation between attention and self-supervised learning. It extracts probability features via a conditional variational autoencoder, strengthens feature representation using multi-layer convolution and residual connections, and introduces a weak correlation attention mechanism to capture global time point relationships. A self-supervised learning module with six signal transformations improves generalization, while KL divergence-based correlation inconsistency quantization with dynamic thresholds enables accurate anomaly detection. Experiments show that FAVAE-AS achieves 0.925 accuracy in fault detection, which is 5% higher than previous methods, and has strong robustness. This research provides critical technical support for UHVDC system safety by addressing converter valve acoustic anomaly detection. This paper proposes a novel hierarchical control architecture that combines Model Predictive Control (MPC) with Explicit Model-Following Control (EMFC) to enable accurate and efficient trajectory tracking for quadrotor electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft operating in urban environments. The approach addresses the challenges of strong nonlinear dynamics, multi-axis coupling, and stringent safety constraints by separating the planning task from the fast-response control task. The MPC layer generates constrained velocity and yaw rate commands based on a simplified inertial prediction model, effectively reducing computational complexity while accounting for physical and operational limits. The EMFC layer then compensates for dynamic couplings and ensures the rapid execution of commands. A high-fidelity simulation model, incorporating rotor flapping dynamics, differential collective pitch control, and enhanced aerodynamic interference effects, is developed to validate the controller. Four representative ADS-33E-PRF tasks—Hover, Hovering Turn, Pirouette, and Vertical Maneuver—are simulated. Results demonstrate that the proposed controller achieves accurate trajectory tracking, stable flight performance, and full compliance with ADS-33E-PRF criteria, highlighting its potential for autonomous urban air mobility applications.
