This study analyzes how Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) communicates policy implementation in tourism governance through 35 official responses to citizen petitions, using Heidbreder’s Multilevel Policy Implementation Strategies Framework (centralization, agencification, convergence, networking). Content coding, frequency analysis, co-occurrence network, and sentiment analysis reveal a dominant centralization pattern, with MoCST maintaining strong top-down control in decision-making and resource allocation. Convergence reflects increased inter-ministerial coordination, while agencification is limited, and networking with private or civil sectors remains weak. This weak networking limits participatory decision-making and hinders the development of adaptive, community-based tourism initiatives, which are crucial for sustainable tourism governance. Positive sentiment is more associated with centralized and convergent actions, indicating institutional trust. The study extends Heidbreder’s framework to a non-Western, centralized context and calls for stronger local agency roles and inclusive networks to enhance resilience and community ownership in policy implementation. Sports stadiums significantly influence urban morphology; however, empirical quantification of these effects remains limited. This study quantitatively examines the spatiotemporal relationship between sports architecture and urban functional evolution using Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai—China’s first Western-style sports facility—as a case study. Employing Point of Interest (POI) data, ArcGIS spatial analyses, chi-square tests, and linear regression-based predictive modeling, we illustrate how the stadium has catalyzed urban regeneration and functional diversification over nearly a century. Our findings demonstrate a transition from sparse distributions to concentrated commercial and service clusters within a 1000 m radius around the stadium, notably in food and beverage, shopping, finance, insurance, and transportation sectors, significantly boosting local economic vitality. The area achieved peak functional diversity in 2016, showcasing a balanced integration of residential, commercial, and service activities. This research provides actionable insights for urban planners and policymakers on leveraging sports facilities to foster sustainable urban regeneration. Full article

Inclusion in play, physical education, outdoor life, organized sports, and other movement-based activities can promote resilience and support physical, emotional, and social well-being. These arenas are particularly important for reducing health disparities and preventing social marginalization across the lifespan. Yet, children and adolescents from vulnerable or disadvantaged backgrounds encounter persistent barriers to participation, rooted in broader inequalities related to their socioeconomic position, disability, gender, ethnicity, and access to supportive environments. This perspective outlines how inclusive movement contexts, when informed by developmental systems theory and resilience frameworks, can interrupt trajectories of marginalization and promote long-term equity in health, education, and work inclusion. We emphasize the need for interdisciplinary approaches, combining longitudinal and qualitative methods, to uncover how vulnerability and participation interact dynamically over time. By integrating insights from developmental science, education, public health, and spatial ecology, we identify strategic pathways for research and action. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts across sectors and stakeholders to co-create inclusive, context-sensitive interventions. Full article

The transportation sector in South Asia largely depends on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which are responsible for a large share of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, air pollution, and the increase in fuel prices. Although hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and fully electric vehicles (EVs) constitute promising alternatives, the rate of their implementation is low due to factors such as the high initial investment, the absence of the required infrastructure, and the reliance on fossil fuel-based electricity. This study is the first of its kind to examine Bangladesh’s drivetrain options in a comprehensive way, with in-depth real-world emission testing and economic analysis as the main tools of investigation into the environmental and economic feasibility of different technologies used in the vehicles available in Bangladesh, including lifecycle costs and infrastructure constraints. The study findings have shown that hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are the best options, since they have moderate emissions and cost efficiency, respectively. Fully electric vehicles, however, face two main challenges: the overall lack of charging infrastructure and the overall high purchase prices. Among the evaluated technologies, PHEVs exhibited the lowest environmental and economic burden. The Toyota Prius PHEV emitted 98% less NOx compared to the diesel-powered Pajero Sport and maintained the lowest per-kilometer cost at BDT 6.39. In contrast, diesel SUVs emitted 178 ppm NOx and cost 22.62 BDT/km, reinforcing the transitional advantage of plug-in hybrid technology in Bangladesh’s context. Full article

This article presents a series of innovative systems developed through student laboratory projects, comprising two autonomous vehicles, a quadrupedal walking robot, an active ankle-foot orthosis, a ball-on-beam balancing mechanism, a ball-on-plate system, and a manipulator arm, all actuated by pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs). Due to their flexibility, low weight, and compliance, fluidic muscles demonstrate substantial potential for integration into various mechatronic systems, robotic platforms, and manipulators. Their capacity to generate smooth and adaptive motion is particularly advantageous in applications requiring natural and human-like movements, such as rehabilitation technologies and assistive devices. Despite the inherent challenges associated with nonlinear behavior in PAM-actuated control systems, their biologically inspired design remains promising for a wide range of future applications. Potential domains include industrial automation, the automotive and aerospace sectors, as well as sports equipment, medical assistive devices, entertainment systems, and animatronics. The integration of self-constructed laboratory systems powered by PAMs into control systems education provides a comprehensive pedagogical framework that merges theoretical instruction with practical implementation. This methodology enhances the skillset of future engineers by deepening their understanding of core technical principles and equipping them to address emerging challenges in engineering practice. Blockchain technology is reshaping the sports industry by enhancing transparency, data security, and fan engagement through applications such as smart contracts, tokenized sponsorships, and decentralized ticketing. This study investigates blockchain adoption in Romanian team sports, specifically football and basketball, through a comparative analysis based on a survey of 293 sports professionals (213 from football and 80 from basketball). Using structural equation modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS and cluster analysis in SPSS, the study explores the perceived benefits of blockchain and its relationship with athlete performance. The findings reveal distinct adoption patterns: football shows higher use of blockchain in ticketing and fan engagement, while basketball leads in performance analytics and financial support mechanisms. Statistically significant differences were confirmed through MANOVA, and clustering revealed varied stakeholder perceptions across professional roles. Benchmarking against sectors like finance and healthcare highlights transferable best practices for blockchain integration in sports. Full article

Environmental pollution has become a significant issue, and environmental protection within the realm of sports has garnered increasing attention from various sectors of the academic community. This study takes the public’s intention to purchase sports stadiums as the research object, introduces two mediating variables of green value perception and sense of accomplishment, builds a hypothetical model from the perspective of motivation protection theory, and explores the influence of perceived functional risk of green sports stadiums on consumption intention through SEM analysis based on the samples of the recovered questionnaires (N = 1073). The results are as follows: first, there is a negative influence between perceived functional risk and green sports stadium consumption intention, and the lower the perceived functional risk of green sports stadiums, the more consumers can promote their choice of green sports stadiums when they consume in stadiums; second, green value perception plays a mediating role in the relationship between perceived functional risk and green sports stadium services consumption intention; third, a sense of accomplishment plays a mediating role in the relationship between perceived functional risk and willingness to consume green sports stadium; fourth, green value perception and a sense of accomplishment play a chain mediating role between perceived functional risk and willingness to consume in the context of green sports stadiums. This study aims to contribute to the popularization and development of green sports stadiums in China and to provide green sports stadium builders and managers with more targeted and effective marketing strategies. Against the backdrop of rapid rail transit development, this study takes Urumqi Metro Line 1 as a case, using geographic information system (GIS) spatial analysis and space syntax Pearson correlation coefficient methods. Focusing on an 800 m radius around station areas, the research investigates the distribution characteristics of commercial facilities and the impact of metro development on commercial patterns through the quantitative analysis and distribution trends of points of interest (POI) data across different historical periods. The study reveals that following the opening of Urumqi Metro Line 1, commercial facilities have predominantly clustered around stations including Erdaoqiao, Nanmen, Beimen, Nanhu Square, Nanhu Beilu, Daxigou, and Sports Center, with kernel density values surging by 28–39%, indicating significantly enhanced commercial agglomeration. Metro construction has promoted commercial POI quantity growth and commercial sector enrichment. Surrounding commercial areas have developed rapidly after metro construction, with the most significant impacts observed in the catering, shopping, and residential-oriented living commercial sectors. After the construction of the subway, the distribution pattern of commercial facilities presents two kinds of aggregation patterns: one is the original centripetal aggregation layout before construction and further strengthened after construction; the other is the centripetal aggregation layout before construction and further weakened after construction, tending to the site level of face-like aggregation. The clustering characteristics of different business types vary. Factors such as subway accessibility, population density, and living infrastructure all impact the distribution of businesses around the subway. The impact of subway accessibility on commercial facilities varies by station infrastructure and urban area. The findings demonstrate how transit infrastructure development can catalyze sustainable urban form evolution by optimizing spatial resource allocation and fostering transportation–commerce synergy. It provides empirical support for applying the theory of transit-oriented development (TOD) in the urban planning of western developing regions. The research not only fills a research gap concerning the commercial space differentiation law of metro systems in megacities in arid areas but also provides a scientific decision-making basis for optimizing the spatial resource allocation of stations and realizing the synergistic development of transportation and commerce in the node cities along the “Belt and Road”. Assistive technology (AT) is increasingly utilized across various sectors, including digital healthcare and sports education. E-learning plays a vital role in enabling students with special needs, particularly those in remote areas, to access education. However, as the adoption of AI-based AT systems expands, the associated cybersecurity challenges also grow. This study aims to examine the impact of AI-driven assistive technologies on cybersecurity in digital healthcare applications, with a focus on the potential vulnerabilities these technologies present. Methods: The proposed model focuses on enhancing AI-based AT through the implementation of emerging technologies used for security, risk management strategies, and a robust assessment framework. With these improvements, the AI-based Internet of Things (IoT) plays major roles within the AT. This model addresses the identification and mitigation of cybersecurity risks in AI-based systems, specifically in the context of digital healthcare applications. Results: The findings indicate that the application of the AI-based risk and resilience assessment framework significantly improves the security of AT systems, specifically those supporting e-learning for blind users. The model demonstrated measurable improvements in the robustness of cybersecurity in digital health, particularly in reducing cyber risks for AT users involved in e-learning environments. Conclusions: The proposed model provides a comprehensive approach to securing AI-based AT in digital healthcare applications. By improving the resilience of assistive systems, it minimizes cybersecurity risks for users, specifically blind individuals, and enhances the effectiveness of e-learning in sports education. The interest in flexible and wearable electronics is increasing in both scientific research and in multiple industry sectors, such as medicine and healthcare, sports, and fashion. Thus, compatible power sources are needed to develop secondary batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, sensors, and dye-sensitized solar cells. Traditional liquid electrolytes pose challenges in the development of textile-based electronics due to their potential for leakage, flammability, and limited flexibility. On the other hand, gel electrolytes offer solutions to these issues, making them suitable choices for these applications. There are several advantages to using gel electrolytes in textile-based electronics, namely higher safety, leak resistance, mechanical flexibility, improved interface compatibility, higher energy density, customizable properties, scalability, and easy integration into manufacturing processes. However, it is also essential to consider some challenges associated with these gels, such as lower conductivity and long-term stability. This review highlights the application of gel electrolytes to textile materials in various forms (e.g., fibers, yarns, woven, knit, and non-woven), along with the strategies for their integration and their resulting properties. While challenges remain in optimizing key parameters, the integration of gel electrolytes into textiles holds immense potential to enhance conductivity, flexibility, and energy storage, paving the way for advanced electronic textiles. Concussion is a costly healthcare issue affecting sports, industry, and the defense sector. The financial impacts, however, extend beyond acute medical expenses, affecting an individual’s physical and cognitive abilities, as well as increasing the burden on coworkers, family members, and caregivers. More effective personal protective equipment may greatly reduce the risk of concussion and injury. Notably, aerogels are light, but traditionally fragile, non-Newtonian fluids, such as shear-thickening fluids, which generate more resistance when compressive force is applied. Herein, a composite material was developed by baking a shear-thickening fluid (i.e., starch) and combining it with a commercially available aerogel foam, thus maintaining a low cost. The samples were tested through the use of a ballistic pendulum system, using a spring-powered launcher and a gas-powered cannon, followed by ballistic penetration testing, using two electromagnetic accelerators and two different projectiles. During the cannon tests without a hardhat, the baked composite only registered 31 ± 2% of the deflection height observed for the pristine aerogel. The baked composite successfully protected the hygroelectric devices from coilgun projectiles, whereas the projectiles punctured the pristine aerogel. Leveraging the low-cost design of this new composite, personal protective equipment can be improved for various sporting, industrial, and defense applications. Full article

β-Hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB), a metabolite of the essential amino acid leucine, is acknowledged for its powerful role in facilitating muscle protein synthesis, reducing muscle catabolism, and promoting fat-free mass accumulation. With well-documented anticatabolic, anabolic, and lipolytic effects, HMB has been extensively studied in clinical settings and has exhibited potential in mitigating muscle loss induced by aging, cancer cachexia, and sarcopenia. Moreover, HMB finds applications in specialized medical nutrition, sports nutrition, and animal husbandry, with recent research illustrating its benefits in enhancing animal growth and immunity. This review highlights the current understanding of HMB’s physiological mechanisms, its diverse applications, and recent advancements in detection methods such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC–MS). Additionally, it discusses the future prospects of HMB bio-manufacturing. The establishment of standardized guidelines for its safe use and testing is crucial for its broader adoption in the food industry. Future research should focus on further elucidating HMB’s muscle growth mechanisms and broadening its applications across the food, health, and agricultural sectors. In sum, future studies should prioritize mechanistic exploration, safety and synergy, along with standardization to fully harness HMB’s potential. Full article

Safety culture plays a vital role in creating safer work environments, making its understanding important. This paper comprehensively analyzes safety culture research trends through a bibliometric study using the Scopus database. This study provided a full insight by analyzing 7058 papers published between 1978 and 2023, employing the PRISMA method and VOSviewer 1.6.19 for bibliometric mapping. The USA, England, China, and Australia are the leading contributors, with Johns Hopkins University being the most active institution. Approximately 75% of publications are co-authored, indicating strong collaboration in this field. Guldenmund (2000) is the most referenced work in safety culture research. Based on the results, this work identifies significant geographical gaps, particularly in Oceania, South America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa, as well as underexplored sectors such as transportation, logistics, energy, sports, education, and construction. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted research in this area, particularly healthcare, while potentially diverting attention from other critical sectors. This study contributes a fresh perspective on the trends of safety culture research, offering valuable insights for scholars and practitioners. Additionally, it highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the unique challenges faced by safety culture across diverse industries and regions. Full article

This study investigates how ESG (environmental, social, and governance) performance influences the corporate value of publicly listed sports companies in China, with a focus on the mediating role of intangible assets and the moderating effect of the policy environment. Analyzing panel data from 41 A-share sports firms over 2009–2023 using a two-way fixed-effects model, the findings reveal that a robust ESG performance significantly enhances corporate value by strengthening brand equity and optimizing resource allocation. Intangible assets, particularly brand value, serve as pivotal mediators in translating ESG efforts into market value. Furthermore, the policy environment plays a critical moderating role: state-owned enterprises (SOEs) exhibit amplified ESG-driven value creation due to stronger policy support and resource advantages. Robustness checks, including an instrumental variable analysis, reinforce the reliability of these conclusions, highlighting the interplay of ESG, intangible assets, and policy in driving long-term competitiveness within the sports sector. By addressing the unique dynamics of ESG in the sports industry, this research bridges a gap in the sector-specific literature and underscores ESG’s strategic importance in fostering sustainable business growth. The results provide actionable insights for corporate managers to align ESG strategies with brand development and for policymakers to design targeted frameworks that incentivize sustainable practices. Drivers of Willingness-to-Pay and Willingness-to-Accept of Cross-Country Skiers in Forests in Poland

Forest areas have recently become increasingly popular for physical activity in society, especially among niche sports enthusiasts. We analysed the attitude of the specific social group of cross-country skiers in Poland to pay for recreation in forest areas using their Willingness-To-Pay (WTP) and Willingness-To-Accept (WTA) declarations, which was endorsed by classification and regression tree (CART) analysis. In January–March 2023, we surveyed 50 (in a pilot study) and 255 (in the main survey) cross-country skiers, of whom 117 declared both their WTP and WTA amounts. The investigated explanatory variables included gender, age, education, residency, employment in the forestry sector, and respondents’ income or engagement in skiing. The average WTP and WTA values equalled PLN 68.6 ± 46.4 and PLN 81.3 ± 59.0/person, respectively. Despite apparent differences in the distribution of the declared WTP and WTA amounts, their medians differed only insignificantly. We found a significant correlation only between the WTP value and respondents’ income per capita, and between WTP and WTA. The CART models showed that WTP and WTA levels depended primarily on the frequency of skiing, with higher values declared by less frequent visitors. At the current respondent income level, the expenses for skiing were related the most to the respondents’ age and the frequency of skiing. In the case of increased income, they were related mostly to the respondents’ age and place of residence. The research provides practical information for forest managers in the field of recreational access to forests for people who spend their time actively in forests. Full article
