This study systematically investigated the corrosion behavior of P110 pipeline steel in simulated carbonated concrete environments through a combination of electrochemical testing and multiphysics simulation, with particular focus on revealing the evolution mechanisms of corrosion product deposition and ion concentration distribution under half crevice structures, providing new insights into localized corrosion in concealed areas. Experimental results showed that no significant corrosion occurred on the P110 steel surface in uncarbonated simulated pore solution. Conversely, the half crevice structure significantly promoted the development of localized corrosion in carbonated simulated pore solution, with the most severe corrosion and substantial accumulation of corrosion products observed at the crevice mouth region. COMSOL Multiphysics simulations demonstrated that this phenomenon was primarily attributed to local enrichment of Cl and H+ ions, leading to peak corrosion current density, and directional migration of Fe2+ ions toward the crevice mouth, causing preferential deposition of corrosion products at this location. This “electrochemical acceleration-corrosion product deposition” multiphysics coupling analysis of corrosion product deposition patterns within crevices represents a new perspective not captured by traditional crevice corrosion models. The established ion migration-corrosion product deposition model provides new theoretical foundations for understanding crevice corrosion mechanisms and predicting the service life of buried concrete pipelines. Investigating the coevolution between ecosystem services (ES) and human well-being (HWB) holds significant implications for achieving the sustainable operation of human–environment systems. However, limited research has focused on ES-HWB interactions in ecotourism-dominated counties. To address this gap, this study takes Chun’an County in Zhejiang Province, China, as a case study, with the research objective of exploring the processes, patterns, and mechanisms of the coevolution between ecosystem services (ES) and human well-being (HWB) in ecotourism-dominated counties. By integrating multi-source heterogeneous data, including land use data, the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and statistical records, and employing methods such as the dynamic equivalent factor method, the PLUS model, the coupling coordination degree model, and comprehensive evaluation, we analyzed the synergistic evolution of ES-HWB in Chun’an County from 2000 to 2020. The results indicate that (1) the ecosystem service value (ESV) fluctuated between 30.15 and 36.85 billion CNY, exhibiting a spatial aggregation pattern centered on the Qiandao Lake waterbody, with distance–decay characteristics. The PLUS model confirms ecological conservation policies optimize ES patterns. (2) The HWB index surged from 0.16 to 0.8, driven by tourism-led economic growth, infrastructure investment, and institutional innovation, facilitating a paradigm shift from low to high well-being at the county level. (3) The ES-HWB interaction evolved through three phases—disordered, antagonism, and coordination—revealing tourism as a key mediator driving coupled human–environment system sustainability via a pressure–adaptation–synergy transmission mechanism. This study not only advances the understanding of ES-HWB coevolution in ecotourism-dominated counties, but also provides a transferable methodological framework for sustainable development in similar regions. Urban forests are vital to cities because they provide a range of ecosystem services, including carbon (C) sequestration, air purification, and urban cooling. However, urban forestry also generates significant amounts of organic waste, such as grass clippings, pruned tree branches, and fallen tree leaves and woody debris that can contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions if not properly managed. In this study, we investigated the effect of wheat straw biochar (produced at 500 °C) on GHG emissions from two types of urban forestry waste: green waste (GW) and yard waste (YW), using a 100-day laboratory incubation experiment. Overall, GW released more CO2 than YW, but biochar addition reduced cumulative CO2 emissions by 9.8% in GW and by 17.6% in YW. However, biochar increased CH4 emissions from GW and reduced the CH4 sink strength of YW. Biochar also had contrasting effects on N2O emissions, increasing them by 94.3% in GW but decreasing them by 61.4% in YW. Consequently, the highest global warming potential was observed in biochar-amended GW (125.3 g CO2-eq kg−1). Our findings emphasize that the effect of biochar on GHG emissions varies with waste type and suggest that selecting appropriate biochar types is critical for mitigating GHG emissions from urban forestry waste. The classical V-Model has served as the foundational framework for aerospace systems engineering, but its scope terminates upon aircraft certification, creating a significant gap in addressing reliability degradation during operational service. This study introduces the W-model framework—a comprehensive lifecycle management approach that extends the V-Model to systematically integrate reliability-centered component modifications with established aerospace development practices. The W-model incorporates a structured six-phase reliability-centered modification methodology that transforms operational data into certified design improvements through systematic reliability monitoring, candidate selection, design reviews, development, and certification processes. A detailed case study on the aviation pneumatic bypass valve demonstrates the methodology. Application of the W-model resulted in a 36% improvement in the mean time between failures and a significant reduction in unscheduled removals. The W-model represents a paradigm shift from reactive maintenance strategies to proactive, data-driven reliability enhancement, providing a systematic approach that maintains the rigor and traceability required for commercial aviation while enabling continuous reliability growth throughout the complete aircraft lifecycle. This study explores the perceptions of future educators, specifically Early Childhood Education students at the Universities of Cádiz and Gdansk, regarding the interconnections between critical thinking and sustainability. The work aims to provide valuable insights into general teacher training, examining how these students’ experiences are contextualized within their respective educational systems and cultural contexts. To achieve this, eleven group interviews (three in Cádiz, eight in Gdansk) were conducted using a structured and expert-validated script. The transcribed data were qualitatively analyzed using QDA MINER v.6 software. Key findings reveal divergent perceptions of critical thinking among pre-service teachers: while Spanish students leaned towards a subjective understanding, Polish students emphasized an objective, data-driven approach. This distinction has significant implications for the conceptualization and teaching of critical thinking in educator training. Despite these differences, both groups of participants highlighted the necessity of implementing active methodologies in higher education (such as cooperative learning, problem-solving, and debates) to foster critical thinking, both for their own development and for preparing for their future practice with young children. This study also identified an excessive emphasis on theoretical aspects of sustainability in these future teachers’ training and a limited understanding of their practical application in the classroom. Furthermore, explicit connections between critical thinking and sustainability were scarce in student responses, highlighting a gap in current educator training in these areas. Collectively, the results suggest significant weaknesses in current teacher training efforts regarding the development of critical thinking and its effective integration with sustainability competencies. At a time when globalisation and the economic crisis have forced a reduction in public expenditure at all levels, social policy and social welfare systems’ efforts for sustainable development are focused on identifying alternative ways to provide integrated services and achieve balanced social development. Post-colonial Cyprus has experienced radical socio-political changes that have demanded rapid responses to address its needs. This paper aims to discuss the role of the Cypriot voluntary sector in the national integrated care. Within the spectrum of ensuring social rights and social justice, the voluntary sector has emerged as a key factor of social policy implementation. Through the exploration and analysis of this context, an in-depth insight is given into socio-political and economic factors, dimensions, relationships, processes, patterns, and critical junctures that, under the influence of history, have shaped the voluntary sector’s path, formed its major stages of transformation, and defined its relationship with structures and institutions. Urban Carbon Metabolism Optimization Based on a Source–Sink–Flow Framework at the Functional Zone Scale

Carbon flow tracking and spatial pattern optimization at the scale of urban functional zones are key scientific challenges in achieving carbon neutrality. However, due to the complexity of carbon metabolism processes within urban functional zones, related studies remain limited. To address these scientific challenges, this study, based on the “source–sink–flow” ecosystem services framework, develops an integrated analytical approach at the scale of urban functional zones. The carbon balance is quantified using the CASA model in combination with multi-source data. A network model is employed to trace carbon flow pathways, identify critical nodes and interruption points, and optimize the urban spatial pattern through a low-carbon land use structure model. The research results indicate that the overall carbon balance in Hangzhou exhibits a spatial pattern of “deficit in the center and surplus in the periphery.” The main urban area shows a significant carbon deficit and relatively poor connectivity in the carbon flow network. Carbon sequestration services primarily flow from peripheral areas (such as Fuyang and Yuhang) with green spaces and agricultural functional zones toward high-emission residential–commercial and commercial–public functional zones in the central area. However, due to the interruption of multiple carbon flow paths, the overall carbon flow transmission capacity is significantly constrained. Through spatial optimization, some carbon deficit nodes were successfully converted into carbon surplus nodes, and disrupted carbon flow edges were repaired, particularly in the main urban area, where 369 carbon flow edges were restored, resulting in a significant improvement in the overall transmission efficiency of the carbon flow network. The carbon flow visualization and spatial optimization methods proposed in this paper provide a new perspective for urban carbon metabolism analysis and offer theoretical support for low-carbon city planning practices. Existing approaches to social media sentiment analysis typically focus on static classification, offering limited foresight into how public opinion evolves. This study addresses that gap by introducing the Multi-Feature Sentiment-Driven Forecasting (MFSF) framework, a novel pipeline that enhances sentiment trend prediction by integrating rich contextual information from text. Using state-of-the-art transformer models on the Sentiment140 dataset, our framework extracts three concurrent signals from each tweet: sentiment polarity, aspect-based scores (e.g., ‘price’ and ‘service’), and topic embeddings. These features are aggregated into a daily multivariate time series. We then employ a SARIMAX model to forecast future sentiment, using the extracted aspect and topic data as predictive exogenous variables. Our results, validated on the historical Sentiment140 Twitter dataset, demonstrate the framework’s superior performance. The proposed multivariate model achieved a 26.6% improvement in forecasting accuracy (RMSE) over a traditional univariate ARIMA baseline. The analysis confirmed that conversational aspects like ‘service’ and ‘quality’ are statistically significant predictors of future sentiment. By leveraging the contextual drivers of conversation, the MFSF framework provides a more accurate and interpretable tool for businesses and policymakers to proactively monitor and anticipate shifts in public opinion. Digital Innovation and Cost Stickiness in Manufacturing Enterprises: A Perspective Based on Manufacturing Servitization and Human Capital Structure

This paper examines the effect of digital innovation on cost stickiness in manufacturing firms, focusing on the underlying mechanisms and contextual factors. Using data from Chinese A-share listed manufacturing firms from 2012 to 2023, we find that, first, for each one-unit increase in the level of digital technology, the cost stickiness index of enterprises decreases by an average of 0.4315 units, primarily through digital process innovation and digital business model innovation, whereas digital product innovation does not exhibit a statistically significant impact. Second, manufacturing servitization and the optimization of human capital structure are identified as key mediating mechanisms. Digital innovation promotes servitization by transitioning firms from product-centric to service-oriented business models, thereby reducing fixed costs and improving resource flexibility. It also optimizes human capital by increasing the proportion of high-skilled employees and reducing labor adjustment costs. Third, the effect of digital innovation on cost stickiness is found to be heterogeneous. Firms with high financing constraints benefit more from the cost-reducing effects of digital innovation due to improved resource allocation efficiency. Additionally, mid-tenure executives are more effective in leveraging digital innovation to mitigate cost stickiness, as they balance short-term performance pressures with long-term strategic investments. These findings contribute to the understanding of how digital transformation reshapes cost behavior in manufacturing and provide insights for policymakers and firms seeking to achieve sustainable development through digital innovation. This study aims to understand the meaning nursing professionals attribute to their lived experiences of providing humanized care within a public hospital setting. Grounded in Jean Watson’s theory of human caring, the research adopts a qualitative, descriptive phenomenological design to capture the perceptions and emotions of nurses regarding humanized care. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nine experienced nurses, selected through purposive sampling. The interviews, conducted virtually between July and December 2024, were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method and supported by Atlas.ti software. Four main thematic categories emerged: institutional health policies, professional image and identity, strengths and challenges in care, and essential competencies for humanized care. The findings highlight the critical role of empathy, cultural sensitivity, ethical commitment, and emotional presence in delivering compassionate care. Participants emphasized that, beyond clinical procedures, humanized care requires relational and contextual sensitivity, often hindered by institutional limitations and excessive administrative burdens. The study concludes that nursing professionals are key agents in promoting ethical, empathetic, and culturally respectful practices that humanize health services. These insights offer valuable contributions for designing policies and training strategies aimed at strengthening humanized care as a cornerstone of quality healthcare systems. Full article

Value-Added Service Pricing Strategies Considering Customer Stickiness: A Freemium Perspective

Freemium, a popular business model in the digital economy, offers a basic product for free while charging for advanced features or value-added services. This pricing strategy enables platforms to attract a broad user base and then monetize through premium offerings. Customer characteristics and service price are important factors affecting customer choice behavior in such a model. Based on consumption stickiness, we consider a monopoly that provides value-added services by incorporating a multinomial logit model into a two-stage dynamic pricing model. First, we analyze the optimal pricing of value-added services under a normal sales scenario. We then consider optimal pricing during the marketing period under two strategies—level improvement for value-added services and quality reduction for a basic product—and analyze the applicability of each. The results show that increasing the value-added service level has a positive effect on the optimal price of value-added services, whereas reducing the basic product quality has no effect on the optimal price. Furthermore, the numerical simulation shows that when the depth of consumer stickiness is low, the optimal marketing strategy reduces the quality of the basic product, the price of value-added services should be higher than that in the normal sales period but lower than the price under the level-improvement strategy for value-added services; otherwise, improving the level of the value-added services becomes the optimal approach. This study provides a theoretical basis and decision support for product quality design and service pricing that applies to freemium platforms. Full article

Static Priority-based Multiple Access (SPMA) is an emerging and promising wireless MAC protocol which is widely used in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks. UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) networks, also known as drone networks, refer to a system of interconnected UAVs that communicate and collaborate to perform tasks autonomously or semi-autonomously. These networks leverage wireless communication technologies to share data, coordinate movements, and optimize mission execution. In SPMA, traffic arriving at the UAV network node can be divided into multiple priorities according to the information timeliness, and the packets of each priority are stored in the corresponding queues with different thresholds to transmit packet, thus guaranteeing the high success rate and low latency for the highest-priority traffic. Unfortunately, the multi-priority queue scheduling of SPMA deprives the packet transmitting opportunity of low-priority traffic, which results in unfair conditions among different-priority traffic. To address this problem, in this paper we propose the method of Adaptive Credit-Based Shaper with Reinforcement Learning (abbreviated as ACBS-RL) to balance the performance of all-priority traffic. In ACBS-RL, the Credit-Based Shaper (CBS) is introduced to SPMA to provide relatively fair packet transmission opportunity among multiple traffic queues by limiting the transmission rate. Due to the dynamic situations of the wireless environment, the Q-learning-based reinforcement learning method is leveraged to adaptively adjust the parameters of CBS (i.e., idleslope and sendslope) to achieve better performance among all priority queues. The extensive simulation results show that compared with traditional SPMA protocol, the proposed ACBS-RL can increase UAV network throughput while guaranteeing Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of all priority traffic. Openings in two-way reinforced concrete (RC) slabs are frequently incorporated for architectural and functional purposes, such as providing pathways for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services. While necessary, these openings can significantly compromise the structural performance of slabs, particularly by reducing their capacity to resist punching shear, an effect that is especially critical when the openings are located near column–slab connections. This paper provides a detailed review of the existing research, examining how various opening parameters such as their size, shape, and position affect key structural performance metrics including their stiffness, ductility, and failure modes. The findings highlight that opening geometry is a major determinant of a slab’s overall behavior. Notably, the proximity of openings to column faces is identified as a critical factor that can substantially influence the extent of strength degradation and failure mechanisms. Furthermore, this review identifies a significant research gap concerning the behavior of slabs with openings under non-standard loading conditions, such as seismic activity, blasts, and impact loads. It also emphasizes the need for further investigation into the long-term performance of such slabs under adverse environmental influences, including elevated temperatures, corrosion, and material degradation. By consolidating the current knowledge and identifying unresolved challenges, this review aims to guide engineers and researchers in developing more robust design strategies and performance-based solutions for RC slabs with openings, ultimately contributing to safer and more resilient structural systems. (1) Background: People living with spinal cord injury (SCI) face numerous challenges in their lives in terms of health conditions, everyday activity, and participation in society, which are not fully recognized. To address such issues, a community survey with 125 questions for people living with SCI was conducted and the response rates, population characteristics, health and functioning problems are reported. (2) Methods: The survey questionnaire comprised 125 questions on SCI characteristics, health conditions, activities, participation, and environmental and personal factors. The survey response rates were calculated, and demographics and health and functioning characteristics were analyzed. (3) Results: A total of 890 individuals responded to the survey. The median age of the participants was 48 years (interquartile range (IQR), 39–56), and 76% of the population were males. Paraplegia (60%) and complete injury (58%) were the most common injury type, and the cause was mostly traumatic (92%). More health problems and lower quality of life were more frequent with older age and in patients without paid work. (4) Conclusions: The Ko-InSCI study provides valuable information in terms of health needs and service gaps for people with SCI in the community. Full article

The growing need to improve the management of end-of-life vehicle (ELV) waste and mitigate its environmental impact is a global concern. One promising approach to enhancing the recyclability of these vehicles is leveraging synergies between the automotive and construction industries as part of a circular economy strategy. In this context, ELV waste emerges as a valuable source of secondary raw materials, enabling the development of sustainable innovations that capitalize on its physical and mechanical properties. This paper aims to develop and evaluate construction industry composites incorporating waste from ELV carpets, with a focus on maintaining or enhancing performance compared to conventional materials. To achieve this, an experimental program was designed to assess cementitious composites, specifically subfloor mortars, incorporating automotive carpet waste (ACW). The results demonstrate that, beyond the physical and mechanical properties of the developed composites, the dynamic stiffness significantly improved across all tested waste incorporation levels. This finding highlights the potential of these composites as an alternative material for impact noise insulation in flooring systems. From an academic perspective, this research advances knowledge on the application of ACW in cement-based composites for construction. In terms of managerial contributions, two key market opportunities emerge: (1) the commercial exploitation of composites produced with ELV carpet waste and (2) the development of a network of environmental service providers to ensure a stable waste supply chain for innovative and sustainable products. Both strategies contribute to reducing landfill disposal and mitigating the environmental impact of ELV waste, reinforcing the principles of the circular economy. Full article
